September 3, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Schell Building HIRTY days from now this hand- some new business and apartment block with frontage on Elm street, Chestnut street and Chestnut court will be completed, if the plans of the owner, R. H. Schell are realized. It is one of the outstanding improve- ments in Winnetka this season, rep- resenting an investment, including grounds, of a quarter of a million dollars. The dry goods store of R. H. Schell & Co. will occupy the main store room on the first floor, here there will also be six shops on Chestnut and Chestnut court. The building comprises three stories, on the second and third of which are the eighteen apartments, some of two, some three and some five rooms each, and a number of which are already under lease. Special attention was given in de- signing this building to assure the best in lighting and ventilation, by making all outside apartments. Marbleized boards, canvassed walls and ceilings and terrazzo floors in the vestibules feature the interior finish. All enameled ice boxes with electri- cal refrigeration; all enameled gas ranges; garbage incineration, oil heat, and in fact every modern invention for the comfort of the apartment dweller i is here provided. Preserve Seventy acres have been added to Cook county's big belt of outer parks through the acquirement by condem- nation of property on the River road, near Camp McDonald road from the estate of Henrietta Snell.
