The name of the newly merged club has not been defi- nitely determined, it having been learned that a title tentatively selected conflicts with the name of another club organization operating under a charter in Illinois. Plans to erect a preten- tious $700,000 clubhouse on the site within the next year, were announced following a joint meeting of the boards of directors of the two clubs held last Friday. The property at Michigan and Lake avenues constitutes one of the out- standing club sites on the north shore and the building which will replace the clubhouse now there is to be a distinc- tive structure, a credit to its location, according to the club's officers. Plans are being drawn by B. H. Burnham and company, Chicago architects. Thwarted by the Evanston zoning laws, in their desire to erect a club- house on a shore site in Evanston, the directors of the Century club found that the Ouilmette Country club was planning a program of expansion. The proposition of consolidation w a s broached and met with mutual ap- proval resulting in the action taken last week. Both clubs exist for prac- tically identical purposes and it was felt that the interests of each could best be served by one big club. The membership in the new club is to be restricted to 1,250 persons, 250 of them life members and 1,000 annual dues paying members.
