Prominent Educators Secured to Direct Activities in Im- portant Department The Children's school of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college will reopen in Harrison hall Monday, September 19, with an additional grade and several new members on its staff The fourth grade will be opened in the Children's school this year, follow- ing the plan for the addition of one grade each year until the school in- cludes the fifth and sixth grades, pre- paring for entrance into the junior high school. Announcement has been made of two new appointments on the teaching staff, that of Miss Dorothy Weller as director of the second grade and of Miss Alida Shinn as assistant in the nursery school. Miss Weller is a graduate of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college and holds the degree of B. S. from Teachers college, Columbia university. Miss Shinn is a graduate of Miss Illman's Kinder- garten and Elementary college, has studied under Miss Marietta Johnson at Greenwich, Conn., and during the past summer assisted in the nursery school at Vassar college. Dr. Julia A. Kirkwood a new mem- ber this year of the faculty of the Na- tional Kindergarten and Elementary college is to have direction of the re- search work of the Children's school. Dr. Kirkwood holds the degree of Ph. D. from the University of Iowa, has done graduate work at Newcomb and Bryn Mawr, and during the past year has been a member of Dr. Bird T. Baldwin's staff in the Child Welfare Research station, University of Iowa, A graduate nurse, Miss Stella Walty, CARD OF THANKS Mr. and Mrs. William Haxton wish to thank the lifeguards and the people of Winnetka who tried to save their daugh- ter, Marion, who was drowned at the Cherry street beach September 4. In addition to Miss Clara Bac Baker, director of the Children's school, members of the staff who are returning this year are: Miss Edith Maddox, nursery school; Miss Miriam Brubaker, junior kinder- garten; Miss Willmina Townes, senior kindergarten; Miss Nellie Ball, first grade; Miss Violet Rush, third and fourth grades; Miss Virginia Solbery, assistant to the director; Miss Anna Markt, educational tests. A number of Evanston and north shore residents who were members of the party conducted by Mrs. Edward Hellmund (Alice Price Bell) have re- turned after a summer of travel in Europe. The group included Miss Dorothy Egan, Mrs. Harry Tingle, Miss Virginia Tingle, Duncan Tingle, Miss Leanore Miller, Miss Mary Bernice Davis, of Evanston, Mrs. Glenn, Miss Ann Barratt, and Miss Frederick Renshaw and Miss Mar- garet Tufts of Winnetka, Miss Har- riet Hamm of Kenilworth, and Mrs. E.
