September 24, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Pearl Theatre Gets Exclusive Rights on Big Fight Films Contrary to precedent, the Tunney- Dempsey championship pictures will not be leased out to the customary hun- dreds of motion picture theaters sim- ultaneouslv as heretofore on such oc- casions. Clarence Beck of the Castle Theater company of Chicago, Louis Laemmle of the Highland Park Theater company, Jerry Abrams of the Gotham Pictures company, and Bruce Godshaw, a civic promoter of Chicago and also directing manager of the Highland Park theaters sat in a con- ference at the Morrison hotel with Tex Rickard and representatives of Tunney and Dempsey. Cook and Lake county received the exclusive protective richts cover- ing a period of three weeks for the showing of the ringside pictures of the championship bout at the Soldiers' Field. The Beck house in Chicago's loop and The Pearl theater in Highland Park will be the only theaters to show these pictures. The Pearl theater has a protection clause giving it the sole authority show the pictures between Randolph street, Chicago, on the south and Mil- waunkee. Wis., on the north. The Pearl theater starts a five-day run with continuous performance from 2 to 11 o'clock, starting Monday, Sen- tember 26. at popular prices. The championship pictures will be added to the regular picture program. Mr. Godshaw claims that the pro- tective richts for the Highland Park Pearl theater showing is the costliest theatrical investment in the entire his- tory of theatrical Chicago.
