lf wa il SN 4 ~~ September 24, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Skokie Valley Area Scene of Remarkable Industrial Growth Remarkable industrial development along the Skokie Valley route of the North Shore line is shown by a sur- vey just completed under the direction of D. H. Howard, construction en- gineer of the railroad. Fifteen large concerns dealing in coal, lumber and. building materials have located their yards on the new line, requiring a total of 37,154 feet of industrial siding and team tracks, or more than seven miles of single track. The North Shore line, whose reve- nues in the past have - been derived largely from passenger traffic, is going after carload freight business in earn- est. - Joint tariffs have been arranged with steam railroads and physical connections with the Milwaukee and St. Paul railway have been made at Rondout. The company is now ar- ranging its tracks to exchange carload freight with the St. Paul railroad at Howard street in Chicago and distri- bute it along the Skokie Valley or turn it over to the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern railroad, the transfer line for all steam railroads in the Chicago dis- trict. Call North Shore Beauties to Model at Shoe Exhibit North shore beauties will have an opportunity early next January to participate in the footwear fashion show in connection with the 17th na- tional convention of the National Shoe Retailers' association in the Stevens hotel, Chicago, January 9, 10, 11- and 12. Ten thousand representatives from all parts of the country and from all branches of the shoe and leather in- dustries will attend the convention. Managers of the footwear fashion show have decided to use north side girls to model the latest style shoes. Youth, beauty and "pep" will count most in selecting the models, who will draw large salaries, it is explained. Headquarters of the association are maintained at 224 S. Michigan ave. 122 of 1,000 Applicants "Make" Frosh Medic Class Of the more than 1,000 applicants for admittance to the freshman class in the school of medicine of North- western university this year, 122 have been accepted, Dr. Irving S. Cutter has announced. Only five of this number were ad- mitted with the minimum two-year college preparation. Fifty-five have had four year college preparation and have received the first degree in arts. One has a Ph.D. degree. S. J. Duncan-Clarke to Speak to Pilgrim Men S. J. Duncan-Clarke of Wilmette, editorial writer of the Chicago Eve- ning Post. and a charter member of Pilgrim: Congreeational church, Ev- anston, will be the speaker at the Pil- grim church Men's club's first autumn meeting Monday evening. This will be held at the church house, 705 Ridge avenue, at 8. Special enter- tainment and refreshments will also be provided.
