-- September 24, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 61 Vista del Lago's First Board of Governors FFICIAL announcement is made by Club Vista del Lago, of |among the foremost clubs of Chicago and environs, these men are the first appointments to the club's board of governors. Chosen | splendidly equipped to advise on membership interests during the from the life members the first five selections fell to the lot of Hugh | continued development of this club. Another announcement of importance to club members is found McLennan of Lake Forest, and P. W. Bradstreet, Mellen C. Martin, | lin the statement that the club's life memberships were retired Leslie I. Cooke, and Harry C. Watts of Winnetka. Well known to the north shore and with a wide experience | September 21. This fact places the club in an enviable position. Hanley Seeks Passer to Replace Baker in Purple's New Machine Rapid strides toward midseason form marked the progress of the North- western football squad during the first week of practice. The warm weather of last week helped materially towards getting the gridders into shape and Coach Hanley wasted little time in getting down to the actual business of whipping together a first string eleven. However, the new Purple mentor has a big job cut out for him this fall The result of the first week of drill shows a decided weakness in several departments. Development of a for- ward passer to take Baker's place is one of the principal worries of the new Wildcat chieftan while at the Mellen C. Martin same time he is doino a 10° of think- ing about his end positions. Right now the flank jobs are being | handled by Waldo Fisher, last year's! regular, and Harry Kent, a sophomore | who has been shifted from {ullback. Fisher is a bit light but is holding down the first string assignment in fair shape so far. Kent still has a lot to learn about his new position but he learns fast. Coach Hanley is fairly catisfied with his ball carriers and after sizing up his assortment of backs he has every reason in the world to be satisfied. With Capt. Gustafson and Holmer at half, Lewis at full and Levison at auarter he has a veteran crew that should do a lot of damage this fall. Coach Dick and brother Pat are placing considerable attention on their forwards right now and nobody on that forward wall is certain of staying there. Rudy Schuler and Arnold Kars- tens are handling the tackle jobs and John Hazan and Justin Dart are work- ing at the guard assignments. Mickey Erickson, Keith Wyman and Bill Hellerman are fighting it out for the center job. Some highly capable reserves are in ithere battling away and are bound A i a ---- Hugh McLennan to get recognition sooner or later. Among the promising looking backs are Johnny Haas, Bill Calderwood, Rus Bergherm, Rollins, Will Lewis and Shorty Rojan. THE NORSHORE Al Kvale and his Jazz Collegians will be seen in a new production at the Norshore theater starting Sunday, September 25. Al is calling his show "Jazz on the High C's" and promises there will be "gobs" of fun for all who see it. It will be a sea of syncopation with singing and dancing sailors. Al and his Collegians will sail through some of the latest and prettiest melodies of the day and the big cast of featured entertain- ers that he has selected to round out this show bids fair to make it one shipload of rollicking good fun and revelry. Among those who will be aboard when Al sets sail are Milton Watson, Florence Brady, Markel and Faun, P. W. Bradstreet Harry C. Watts Billy Gerber and the Abbot Co-Eds. "Adam and Evil" with Lew Cody and Aileen Pringle will be on the screen. The neglected wife of Lew Cody inad- vertently meets her husbhand--who dis- guises himself as his own twin brother. Their misadventures in these unusual roles are dramatic and clever. County W. C. T. U. Convenes Here Oct 6; Local Elects Plans to entertain the Cook county convention of the W. C. T.
