He took an active part in the recent campaign for the new building which the church is erecting and was one of its most | ardent promoters. During the World War, Mr. Alton | was in the field work of the American Red Cross. Since that time he has not heen well. The illness which proved fatal to him last week, however, was not of this origin, coming suddenly and taking him at a time when he was considered to be in fairly good health. He is survived by his widow, a son, Robert I. Alton, and a daughter, Mrs. Wellington Coolidge, 794 Lincoln ave- |' nue, Winnetka.
