Blackhall, veteran electric railroad executive of wide experience. has assumed his duties as general man ager of the Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee railroad. He succeeds John F. Egolf, who resigned to become vice- president and general manager of the Western United Gas and Electric company with headquarters at Joliet Illinois. At the time of his new appointment, Mr. Blackhall was serving as vice- president and general manager of the Chicago and Joliet Electric railway. with headquarters in Joliet. His offices with the North Shore line are at High- wood, Ill, and he is making his home with his family at Highland Park. An Auto for Every Five in U. S., Statistics Show Shipments of automotive freight last year totalled in excess of 3,280.000 freight car loads, gasoline leading the list with 910,000 carloads, according to the Chicago Motor club. There is one automobile to every five persons in the United States, and one to every sixty-six persons in the world, according to commercial reports received by the club, and the growing use of automotive equipment outside the United States is shown in figures which reveal a total of 5,512,923 motor vehicles in foreign lands at the begin- ning of this year, as against 2,931,407 on January 1, 1914.
