A magnificent range of torm and color will be found in the Darwin tulip, most suitable for a forms il garden. They should be planted in groups of a dozen or more of one variety. The Clara Butt, a delicate ap- ole-blossom pink, with just a touch of salmon and silver shading, is one of the best of the Darwin variety. Farncombe Sanders, a very large rosy-scarlet with white base, is a popular variety. The Darwins loom in May, and for soft colors in all tones of pink and red, mauve to roval purple and violets to a color bordering on black, they are unequalled. Among the Cottage tulips will be found the unusual type, most excellent for natural effects in gardens of an informal character. Numbered among the favorites are the Ambrosia, in color an exouisite amber rose, the Alaska, a golden yellow with a very long flower with pointed petals, and the Dido a brilliant orange red turn- ing to orange yellow near the edge.
