Adams Pharmacy The Rexall Store Phone Winnetka 2 Elm and Linden Catharine Lay Returns After Travel in Europe Miss Catharine Lay returned to her home at 1408 Edgewood lane, Hubbard Woods, Wednesday, after extensive travel in Europe. She arrived in Southampton August 10, and journeyed to London to spend a week with the Dudley Crafts Watson tour. From England Miss Lay went to Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, and Germany. While in Switzerland she spent a day and a half with Miss Marian Caswell, former principal of the Hubbard Woods school. She visit- ed Miss Caswell's school in Geneva and attended a session of the League of Nations. Miss Lay flew from Cologne to Bremen, a trip of two hours, and sailed for America from the latter city. She arrived in New York October 14, and spent several days visiting friends on her way home. The semi-annual audit of the village accounts by Wolf & Co., of Chicago, was authorized by the village council at its meeting Tuesday evening. Mrs. Paul Rittenhouse, assistant to the president of the Illinois League of Women Voters, was the speaker of the morning. She explained the rea- sons for and the program of the Na- tional league of Women Voters. Primarily, the league studies prac- tical needs of administration and legis- lation in order to properly secure jus- tice and to give a real contribution to society in governmental matters. A year's subscription to the Woman's Citizen will be awarded the Block Cap- tain in each precinct securing the largest number of memberships in the Winnetka League for the year 1928. 2. Memberships secured may be either renewels or new memberships. 3. Each membership obtained to count in contest must be accompanied by $1.00 membership dues. 4. The contest will begin Monday, October 17 and will close Saturday eve- nng, October 29, 5. During the week beginning October 17th, and ending Sunday, October 23rd, each Block Captain is restricted to the territory assigned to her by her Precinct Chairman. During remainder of contest each Block Captain may solicit member- ships anywhere within her Precinct. 6. Precinct boundaries are outlined on map in Year Book. 7. VanderVries, presi dent of the Winnetka league, assigned each precinct to a definite place in the assembly room, where they talked, while luncheon was served by members of the board. Following luncheon, an original play- let, "A Block Captain's Adventure," was presented by Mrs. Edwin E. Brown, the author. Mrs. James Dem- ing was the block captain who in- dustriously and successfully went after memberships for the League of Women Voters during a membership campaign.
