ah. October 29, 1927 WINNETKA TALK N. T. DECIDED FAVORITE | IN WHITING GAME TODAY Fandom Predicts Easy Win for Local Grid Team as Indiana Eleven Arrives With two weeks of intensive work on the perfection of both offensive and defensive play now in the back- ground, what is considered as one of the strongest teams in New Trier High school history will face the Whiting, Ind., eleven this afternoon deciding the favorite. Defects in the operation of both line and backfield, noticable in the Waukegan tilt on Oc- tober 15, were no longer apparent when the final practice was held this week. Line plunging, passing and team work appeared much smoother and unless the unforseen occurs, New Trier should emerge the victor in to- day's game by a wide margin. Whiting is not expected to prevent a very formidable line-up and it is an- ticipated that Coach Aschenbach will withhold any great versatility in attack as a precaution against the eves of spies for Deerfield Shields or Evans- | scheduled | ton, with whom games are in coming weeks. Whiting in previous seasons has presented a team consis- tently heavier that the local outfit and it is possible that the New Trier line may find the "going rough" this after- noon. A fast backfield with a concentrated interference and a sharp aerial attack should, however, prove sufficient to carry the local gridders to a safe lead within the first two periods. The line-up will probably be the same as that started against Wauke- gan, except that Miller will replace Holloway at right tackle, while Hoag- land will remain out. Markley and Huffman will appear at ends. Je- sides Miller, "Slim" Rossiter will play at tackle. Both are heavy, although Miller's long absence from the team, | | due to injury to his hand, may slow him up. Captain Bob Sweet and Weinecke have the guard positions. with Bennett at center. In the last | game, Waukegan tried many rushes through the center of the line, but seldom made more than a couple of yards. Hunter Hicks will call signals. Nel- son and Baker, who have made most of the gains for the Grey and Green in the three games played to date, will | | start the game at half, with Richards back at his old place at fullback. Greeley School Entertains Faculty of Other Schools All of the members of the faculties of the Winnetka schools were en- tertained by the Greeley school P. T. A. last Wednesday night at a Hallo- we'en party that took the form of a typical old fashioned country dinner and dance. Decorations had been put up about the school auditorium other rooms and in this fitting atmos- phere the guests were seated to a meal prepared and served by the parents of the children attending the Greeley school. A six piece dance orchestra had been retained for the occasion and a pro- gram of modern and old time dances was run off to the accompaniment of a medly of both old time and popular airs. Bridge tables had also been erected and prizes arranged for those not wishing to dance. Washburne Tells Hubbard Woods Pupils of Russia Pupils of the Hubbard Woods school were given an opportunity to see how the peasants of Russia dress and heard many interesting things about the schools, customs, and people of that country last Wednesday during the as- sembly period when Supt. and Mrs. Carleton Washburne appeared garbed in true Russian clothes and told of their visit in Russia during the past summer.
