October 29, 1927 WINNETKA TALK New Trier High School Adopts New Report Card A new report card, the outgrowth of a careful study by members of the faculty of several different types of cards and embodying the majority of the best features of these in a modified form, has been instituted this year at New Trier High school. Prepared under the direction of Wesley I. Brown, registrar, the card has the usual subject gradings by months. In addition it embodies an- other table of similar appearance in which are recorded by means of a number system, the reasons for any low grades that may appear. These reasons are listed as follows: indifference, attitude wrong, required work not all done, lack of effective study, carelessness and inaccurate work, class recitations poor, written home work poor, tests unsatisfactory, unexcused absence, subject difficult and immaturity of the student. _ Another feature of the card is that it contains a graph comparing month by month the scholarship average of the particular student for whom it is issued with other students' averages and lists the percentage of the stu- dents in the school who have higher grades than that student and also the percentage having lower grades. RUMMAGE SALE AT SCHOOL The girls of the senior class of the Mallinckrodt High school are holding a rummage sale in the school hall this afternoon. Girls of the eighth grades of the neighboring Catholic grammar schools are attending and the proceeds are being turned over to the Catho- lic Mission fund. The seniors fixed their quota at $150 and expect this will be realized. N. T. Music Club to Hold Meeting Next Thursday Harden Van Deursen, a New Trier alumnus, will present a musical pro- gram at the regular semi-monthly meeting of the Music club of New Trier High school, which will be held next Thursday. The Music club is one of the oldest organizations in the High school and has become so popular among the stu- dents that it has been deemed advis- able to form the Junior Music club under the sponsorship of Miss Ade- laide Jones, a member of the faculty. This club now has a membership of over 45 students. The meetings of the Music club are held every two weeks at the homes of various members of the organiza- tion. At each meeting a musical pro- gram of some type is presented by either a member or members of the club or of the New Trier alumnae. At the present time the club has within its membership two male quar- tets, one string quartet and two string trios. Junior League Group to Meet Alternate Sundays The North Shore Junior league held its second meeting of the year Sunday evening at 1054 Gage street. The speaker of the evening was Dr. J. W. F. Davies, who gave an interesting dissertation on the "Fundamentals of Life." The officers for the year are: David Wanger, president; Elinor Pop- per, vice president; Alfred Alschuler, treasurer; Judith Lehmann, secretary. The league plans to meet for tea every other Sunday evening.
