Milnes "The Romantic Age," the North Shore Theater guild will swing into its seventh annual season of activity, Tuesday, November 8, when its first tour begins at the Highland Park Wo- man's club. The play is scheduled for Winnetka, at the Skokie November 11 and 12. It will be pro- duced in Lake Forest, at Durant hall, November 9; Glencoe, Central school auditorium, November 10; Wilmette, Shawnee club, November 15; and Ev- school, on anston, Woman's club, November 16 and 17. "The Romantic Age" is another one oi those delightful, chatty English comedies of an author who has already been well received by north shore audiences. Milne's "Ariadne" and "The Truth About Blayds" have al- ready been presented by the Theater guild. "The Romantic Age," however, is considered by qualified critics to be the drollest and most satisfying farce this playwright has written. Wide Selection of Talent As the outstanding little theater group of Chicago's north shore, from [ake Forest to Evanston, the Theater guild draws its talent from all the other amateur organizations that now exist in the various communities. The Community Players, the Threshold Players, the Play shop, and many other local dramatic societies contribute the pick of their membership to the suc- cess of guild productions. All the plays of the Theater guild are put on by a professional director who devotes himself almost exclusively to the work of giving these productions the smoothness that characterizes the professional theater. In the past, many of the plays have been produced con- temporaneously with their New York presentation, while others are produced for the first time by any except the original company. Former guild plays include such notable works as "The Red Robe," "Fashion," "The Duenna," "Autumn Fire," "Plots and Play- wrights," "Pygmalion," and "Henry vr Well Suited to Facilities In "The Romantic Age" the Theater guild has chosen a vehicle well suited to its talent and facilities. The play abounds in situations that are uproar- iously absurd. The longing of a moon- smitten maiden for something more gallant in the way of a lover than a derby-hatted member of the Stock Exchange, and the romantic destiny that awaits her, affords a broad oppor- tunity for Milne' s exquisite dialogue. David Owen directs the piece, taking up the work of Alexander Dean who has gone to join the Dramatic depart- ment of Yale university. Owen's extensive career on the professional stage has equipped him to handle his groups with a sense of stagecraft that brings out the best in both play and players. His first work with the Theater guild will be watched with interest.
