November 5, 1927 WINNETKA TALK FINE CAST TO OFFER "LILAC TIME" BENEFIT Winnetka P ost Offers War Drama to Winnetka Audiences November 14, 15 and 16 Wide popular interest is aroused in the American duction of "Lilac Time" and from the advance sale it looks as though the Legion would be fortunate in present- ing its play to crowded houses. It is considered highly appropriate that the I.egion should produce a play about the | Great war for the benefit of those | whom the war left in difficult ¢ircum- | stances. This seems an opportune mo- | ment for Winnetka to have its own | war play, inasmuch as the public has | in the last year or so shown a renewed | interest in those great events that hap- | pened almost ten years ago, as proved | by the great sucess of "What Price | Glory," "The Big Parade," "Wings" | and other such production. We have being [Legion pro- way from Legion still many come a long those days, and yet the knows that there are unhealed wounds that need care, and to this end they are present-| ing "Lilac Time." Winnetka has al- | ways supported Legion efforts along these lines and the veterans know with certainty that those who "do their | bit" by coming to the show will be| more than well rewarded. Tells Story of the War There are few phases of war which are not touched on in this play. Natur- ally the limits of Winnetka stages pre- vent the actual portrayal of battle scenes such as one sees on the profes- sional stage and in the movies, but in this little comedy is packed a story con- taining all the poignancy, courage, tragedy and humor of war days. The audience will be rapidly transported from the comedy of British "Tommies" and quaint l'rench characters into a love story, deep and tender, and finally to the soul stirring emotions of sacri- ice, tragedy and the courage that is bigger than all tragedy. The cast, under the direction of Wil- liam Ziegler Nourse, are throwing themselves into almost daily rehearsals with an enthusiasm that bids well for | the success of the play. Mr. Nourse brings wide experience and a driving energy to his work. Indications pre- | dict a smoothness and speed of action in the play which has not been sur- passed in Winnetka. He is particular- Iv concerned in making every part a "feading part" and every scene no mat- ter how apparently small, as vital and integral a part of the action as those scenes which in theater parlance are known as "big." It is believed that Thelma Sidley in the outstanding role of the play will be a revelation to the audience in her depth and sincerity.
