Mason, state chairman of co-operation with ex-service men, and "Our Federation --Use It and Enjoy It" by Mrs. Wil- liam F. Farrell, first vice president, I. F. W. C. The morning session will close with music by the Brownson Circle quartet. Rollo Walter Brown, whose subject will be "The Creative Spirit of the American Public," will address the afternoon session and Martin Groven- son, baritone, will sing. 3 All members of federated clubs are invited to 'be present. County Club Conference T hursday, November 10 A conference of all clubs in Cook and Lake counties will be held at the Stevens hotel, Chicago, on Thursday, November 10, at 10 o'clock in the morning. All club women are invited to share this day by attending the conference, the luncheon, and the afternoon program. Mrs. Walter W. Seymour, state president of the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs, will preside. Speak- ers at the morning conferences will be Mrs. Charles S. Clark, Mrs. Maud Swalm Evans, Mrs. Maurice Lieber, and Mrs. George W. Plummer. Following luncheon, two minute talks will be given on "The Scope of the Federation and Why Clubs Should Belong" by Mrs. Edward S. Bailey, president of Chicago and Cook Coun- ty Federation of Women's Oreaniza- tions; Mrs. Harry S. Vaile, president of Federation of Cook County Wom- en's Clubs, and Mrs. S. W. Munch, president of Lake County Federation of Women's Clubs. Music by the Philicon club and an address,' "The Dangers of Democracy," by Dr. Wil- liam H. Boddy, will complete the pro- gram. View From Pageant Stage at MacDowell Colony A large group of north shore resi- dents gathered in the studio of Ben- jamin H. Marshall at the Wilmette Harbor, last Tuesday evening for the season's opening meeting of the North Shore MacDowell society. Mrs. Albert J. Ochsner gave an im- pressive talk on the work achieved at Peterborough, N. H., where the Mac- Dowell colony provides ideal condi- tions for creative work. Through the summer months poets, novelists, paint- ers, sculptors, and composers each year are producing works of vital import- ance to the art of our country. The officers of the North Shore MacDowell association this year are: Frank W. Ambler of Evanston, presi- dent; Mrs. Dwight C. Orcutt of Glen- coe, first vice president; Guy Stewart Bailey of Winnetka, second vice presi- dent; Mrs. William S. Musicale on Program for Catholic League The North Shore Catholic Woman's league will have a board meeting and program Tuesday, November 8, at the Winnetka Woman's club. The board meeting will be called at 1 o'clock by Mrs. William Schildgen, the president. The program, consisting of a musicale, will begin at 2:30. Mrs. Chester E. Cleveland of Winnetka has had charge of arrancements for the musicale. Mrs. R. R. Gavin of Chicago will sing a group of songs. She is well known both, for her lovely contralto voice and for directing of St. Andrew's choir. Following her songs. Miss Virginia Mattes of Chicago will give a number of violin selections. D. A. R. Meets November 9 The Kaskaskia chapter of the Daugh- ters of American Revolution will have its November meetinge Tuesday, November 8, at 2 o'clock, at the Hotel LaSalle. Judee William N. Gitemmill of Chicago will be the speaker. His subiect will be "Romantic America." Louis Steiner, tenor, will give a group of songs. Mrs. Melville C. Chatten of Winnetka is regent of the chapter. Plans are under way for a meeting November 16. of all the chapters in the region. Mrs. Alfred Brosseau. the presi- dent-general, will attend this meeting, which will be held at the LaSalle. A reception will be given in her honor on November 17, at the Stevens hotel. Central Education Council Has Departmental Meeting The Central Council of Childhood Education will hold its next meeting Saturday, November 5, at 10:30 o'clock, at the Central Eleanor Club rooms in Chicago. This meeting is to be a departmental one and each of the sections, pre-kin- dergarten, kindergarten, primary, in- termediate. supervision, and teacher training, have arranged for interesting programs. A luncheon will be served at 12:30 o'clock, at which the discus- sion will be "Experimental Approach to Teacher Training." Miss Flora Cooke of the Francis Parker school and Prof. W. H. Burton" of the University of Chicago are among the speakers. Garden Club to Close The Winnetka Garden club will hold its last meeting of the vear on Tues- dav, November 15, at 2:30 o'clock, at the home of Mrs. Archibald Shaw. 50 Locust road. Following a short busi- ness meeting led bv Mrs. C. Colton Daughaday, there will be a talk by Mrs. Robert Leesley of Oak Park. Her anhiect will be "Creeping Bent Lawn." The club will not meet again until spring. Mrs. Svlvia Jacobs of Omaha, Neb., who has been visiting relatives in Win- netka and other north shore villares, left for California October 27. Garden Club of Illinois to Have Meeting Wednesday The Garden club of Illinois has in- vited the members of the Winnetka Garden club, and of other garden clubs belonging to the Garden club of TII- nois. to attend a meeting next Wed- nesday at the Sherman hotel. Each member will be privileged to bring one guest. No charge will be made. The program, which is to beein at 10 o'clock, will include a number of interesting talks by well known sar- deners. Maude Jacobs, of the Garfield Park staff. will give the first talk. Her subject will be "Growing Perennials from Seed." At 11 o'clock. Mrs. Louise Hubbard of Winnetka will tell about "Planting the Perennial Border." Mrs. Hubbard is known throuchout the country as a landscape architect and a delightful speaker. She returned re- cently from a lecture tour through the East. Following luncheon, Mrs. G. Fellows of Belvidere, TI, will speak on "Exc periences in "My Rock Garden and Water Garden." C. Bangs. a landscane architect of Arlington Heights, will conclude the program with a talk on "Planning the Home Grounds." JOHANNA GROUP MEETING The next meeting of the North Shore Johanna committee will be held on No- vember 10, at the home of Mrs. Josep! Michaels, 1202 Sornth Sheridan road, Highland Park.
