Lectures Continue on Meaning of the Bible Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock, Dr. Herbert Willett, minister of the Kenil- worth Union church, continued his course of lectures, "The Making and Meaning of the Bible." This week the subject was "The Book of Esther: A Jew's Defiance." Dr. Willett is a student of the Bible and Bible history, who is international- ly recognized as one of the outstand- ing authorities on this who is a speaker of greatest charm and ability. Dr. Willett's sermon for next Sunday will be "A Nation's Grati- tude." It is announced that in the parents' and teachers' meetings of the church, which precede the Wednesday evening Bible talks at 7:15, the following sub- jects will be considered: "Religious Education and the Community," "Why Religious Education Today?", "Where Are We Going in Religious Educa- tion?", "Why Graded Curriculum and Worship?", "Why Dramatics, Pro- jects, World Friendships and Service Programs?" and "Why Teach as the Master Taught?" subject, and Call Citizens to Express Views on Apartment Question In the course of the last year, parti- cularly, there has heen a decided in- crease in the number of combined store and apartment buildings built or pro- jected in Winnetka. Such buildings, under the Zoning ordinance, are re- stricted to the district designated as "C" Commercial. Under the Zoning ordinance an apartment is defined as "A Household unit in an apartment house, or, above the first floor, in a building used in part for commercial purposes and suit- able for occupancy by one or more per- sons." Another restriction is that "buildings used partly for residential purposes shall not accommodate or make provision for more than seventy- two (72) families per acre of land, nor make provision for more than a pro- portional number of families on a frac- tional part of any acre of land." It has been suggested that possibly some change in this intensity of use of land should be made. This apartment development has na- turally attracted considerable atten- tion and it has been thought advis- able by the Committee on Plats and Zoning of the Village council and the Zoning commission, to afford the peo- ple of Winnetka an opportunity to state their views regarding the regula- tions governing apartments. Accord- ingly an informal hearing will be held by these two bodies on Tuesday, No- vember 29, at 8 o'clock, in the Council Chamber of the Village hall. All those interested in any way in the apartment situation are urged to attend so that the Council committee and the commis- sion may have the benefit of their ad- vice on the Village's policies in this connecton.
