Suggesting that burglaries are seldom attempted unless the householder is away, the police ask the co-operation of the residents of the village in helping to protect them and list a number of precautions as follows : Make sure that deliveries of newspapers, mail, milk, etc., are discontinued. Make certain that all "dooss and win- dows are locked. While locks do not keep out the professional burglar, they fre- quently deter the amateur. Do not draw all the shades in the daytime, Burglars sometimes "spot" a "job" during the day. Leave a light burning at least in one room on the second floor; it is also de- sirable to leave one burning on the first floor. Do not draw shades in the un- lighted rooms, but draw them in the lighted rooms. Do not leave your garage doors stand open when you go away, even if only for an evening. If you suspect that a car is following you home at night, instead of driving home, drive to police headquarters. Do not tack a note near your door bell indicating that you are away. Notify the police department when leaving your residence unoccupied, even if only for a day or evening. In such cases, special attention will be given to your home by our patrolmen, without cost to you. Do not hesitate to call the police on the slightest suspicion. They are making every effort to prevent crime, but need your co-operation. Sororities and Frats Vie for Homecoming Honors Evanston was the scene of great festivity last week-end for the North- western homecoming football game. The new sorority houses were decor- ated for the first time and each soror- ity and fraternity entered floats in the parade Friday evening. Three prizes were given for the best floats among the fraternities, three for the sororities and prizes for the houses that were decorated most originally and most colorfully. Sigma Chi received thr prize for the best float among the fraternities. Delta Gamma took the first prize among the sororities with their purple and white aeroplane. The Lambda Chi fraternity house re- ceived first prize for its original and clever decorations which covered the front of the house. The Gamma Phi Beta sorority house represented a feudal castle and took first honors followed by Kappa Alpha Theta who converted their house into a huge checker board very cleverly executed and colored accordingly. Delta Delta Delta took third prize. DRAMA LEAGUE DIRECTOR Mrs. Clifford J. Ellis, president of the Drama club of Evanston, has re- cently been elected a director of the Drama League of Chicago. At the home of Mrs. Rockefeller McCormick, Horace J. Bridges, recently returned from England, discussed the outstand- ing features of the London dramatic season.
