Children's Theater Play to Tell Story of Mock Gentleman "The Make-Believe Gentleman," an adaptation of Moliere's famous play, "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" will 6pen the third season of the Evanston Chil- dren's theater, December 3 and 10. The performances this year will be given in the Haven school theater, which was designed especially for the presenta- tion of children's plays. "The Make-Believée Gentleman" is a three-act play dealing with the efforts of Mr. Jourdain, a Paris shopkeeper who has suddenly become rich, to pass as a gentleman. The original play of Moliere was written after an imperial command by Louis XIV of France and was first played in his court in 1670. Its presen- tation in Evanston was suggested to Miss Winifred Ward, director of the Children's theater, by the director of the Los Angeles Children's theater, who produced it there last year with great success. French noblemen at the time of Lou- is XIV were greatly interested in Turkish customs, so the famous French playwright was ordered to write a play and include a Turkish scene. This comes when Mr. Jourdain receives a title, supposedly from the embasssies of the Sultan, after an elaborate cere- mony. In reality, a young man who loves Jourdain's daughter, but who is not considered a "gentleman" by him, has hired a band of mummers to enact the mock ceremony. "The Make-Believe Gentleman" is accompanied by music and there is dancing in many of the scenes. The Haven school orchestra, which is di- rected by B. F. Stuber, will play the score. The Northwestern chapter of Orchesus, a national dancing organiza- tion, will furnish the dancing choruses. The New Automatic Electrola LJ To hear this amazing instrument is to understand in a measure why science has often claimed that elec- trical force and life are one and the same. For, in the performance of this purely electrical instrument, there is a duplication of the living resonance of the voice, the touch of living hands upon the instru- ments, that is uncanny. With a precision that is human, it changes each Record and quietly shuts off its own power at the end of more than an hour's entertain- . ment. A faint and delicate whisper; or the thunder of the full Organ or Orchestra, are within its range. Mere words cannot describe its beauty of design. It is a joy to behold and a delight to use and hear. Come in and let us have the privilege of entertaining you with it. CONVENIENT TERMS North Shore Talking Machine Co. 712 Church Street Yabtessicy Ee ow AN ATTRACTIVE HOME-SITE Some of the Advantages of-- WESTMOOR TRAIL In Winnetka Concerning Elevation Many people associate the idea of property overlooking the Skokie as being low--Dbecause a large part of the Skokie Valley proper is low. A comparison of actual elevations at varying locations in Winnetka-- as supplied by Mr. Windes (Village Engineer) of Windes ¥ Marsh, from records in their office, show that-- the highest point in Winnetka is not, as many might suppose, in the Hubbard Hill section, which ranges from 57 to 71 feet above Lake Level; but the highest point is near Asbury and Euclid where the eleva- tion is around 86 feet. Likewise, many are accustomed to think of the Indian Hill section as being considerably higher than most other parts of the Village, whereas, in fact, at Hill Road and Birch Street the elevation is 42.8 feet and sloping gradually to the West to 41.5 feet at Locust and Hill Road and 41 feet at Glendale. At Sunset and Locust, three different elevations within a few hundred feet of each other show 38.5 feet, 40 and 41.3 feet whereas, Crow Island Park slightly North and West runs up to 43 feet. Working North from Willow St. on Glendale Road, Willow records 40 feet; Ash 39.5 feet; Cherry 41, Oak 43 feet, and Elm Street, (the location of the Skokie School) 46 feet. Going up as you go North! Jumping over to westmoor Road, on Hibbard, where WEST- MOOR TRAIL begins-- the ELEVATION IS 49.8 feet. In other words, WESTMOOR TRAIL, at the starting point of Hibbard Road is from four to ten feet higher than the territory above mentioned and at the lowest point at the extreme West end is not as low as the low spots in territory South and East. The last few days of heavy rain showed clearly '"which way the land lies." For example, those parts of Skokie Playfield under water the past week, were all West or South, or Southwest of WESTMOOR TRAIL. No part of WESTMOOR TRAIL under water--all high and. dry from one end to the other. Gradually sloping to the West and South from the high point of 49.8 feet at Hibbard and Westmoor--surface drainage is natural--to the West and South. The Advantages of Privacy Undoubtedly the finest Home-Sites in Winnetka are those laid out along a private drive or roadway. All of the advantages of getting into the Suburbs can be summed up in "getting away." Freedom from heavy traffic 'and the noise and dirt and smoke incidental thereto is surely, 'the ultimate to strive for. If one could have gas and water and electricity and drainage-- plus schools and churches and transportation--"accessibility'"'--in the country, many of us would like our homes under those conditions-- to enjoy what country life offers, namely, peace, quiet--some measure of freedom. Since we cannot have all those things in the country, that, then, which comes nearest to it in the Village surely offers greatest appeal. How nearly does WESTMOOR TRAIL supply this? A private drive to lead down to Skokie Playfield from Westmoor Road--with plots laid out with a frontage of sufficient size to assure privacy--off of the main highway----protected by the Village Park to the West--open space forever assured Here one will have all of the advantages of country atmosphere-- plus all the conveniences of the Village. While close to schools and transportation--yet in atmosphere--it is far away--in the country. Out there--Nature is continuously painting gorgeous Master- pieces--from sombre greys.to the most vivid hues of the rainbow-- where all is peace and quiet. There, you may have the home you ultimately want, expressing your own individuality in a setting of which you will never tire. At Prices Lower Than Anything Comparable. To one who has lots of money, the cost of the most desirable lo- cation one can find for a home-site, should not be a determining factor. Yet most of us are confronted with the stern necessity of cost. There is a price beyond which prudence and common-sense dictate we shall not go. Assured of the right character of homes and desirable neighbors-- when building starts in the Spring--these plots should be easily worth twice what you would now pay. If you have considered a hundred foot frontage in Winnetka--comparable to this in desirability--you can probably get a hundred fifty feet in WESTMOOR TRAIL for the same, or considerably less cost. Having additional frontage for the same price or less, in a superior location, is worth finding out about. Call me up and make an oppointment with me to show you WEST. MOOR TRAIL. If it is worth looking at, at all, it Is worth having Its advantages pointed out by one who is familiar with Its advantages. It will be a pleasure to show it, and without obligation, of course, GLEN C. BULL 500 Maple Ave. Phone Winnetka 1016 WINNETKA
