Zane Grey's "Open Range" | Strive to Sell 2,000 at Teatro This Saturday | Zane Grey's "Open Range" will be the attraction this Saturday at Teatro del Lago. lane Chandler, one of the latest of screen "discoveries," is the hero and Betty Bronson of "Peter Pan" fame is the heroine. "The Angel of Broadway," starring Leatrice Joy, and which presents in her support Victor Varconi, May Robson, Jane Keckley, Alice Lake, Ivan Lebe- deff and Clarence Burton, will be shown on Sunday only. Lenore J. Cof- fee, author of "The Volga Boatman," wrote the story especially for Leatrice Joy. Monday and Tuesday Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton appear in "Fire- man, Save My Child," an idiotic pseudo-comedy which contains rather more than less of the pitiful of the brain children of the comedy scenarists. The problems of the modern girl in a world that is teeming with new ideas concerning the relations of men and women are ably depicted in the daring story, "The Crystal Cup" which will be presented on Wednesday. Dorothy Mackail and Jack Mulhall are the pro- tagonists in this First National picture. First National's gay college story, "The Drop Kick," starring Richard Barthelmess, is to be shown on Thurs- day and Friday. This story, dealing with college life today, is full of college boys and girls, college scenes, football games, fratern- ity dances and all the college atmo- sphere of today. Tickets and Restore Players to Evanston In the interest of keeping the spoken drama in Evanston, a special commit- tee of the Evanston Chamber of Com- merce is making a drive to dispose of 2,000 season tickets for the Evanston Players at the New Evanston theater, which recently closed because of lack of patronage. Letters have been sent to a large number of representative Evanston- ians, setting forth the merits of the stock company and arguing the case for keeping such an organization in operation here. "While we have here at hand," say the letters, "répresenative movie pro- grams combined with vaudeville num- bers, there is nothing offered this side of the loop, either for us or for our children, which presents the text of dramatic literature or gives us the opportunity to view impersonations as given by accomplished actors." If the 2,000 tickets for a six weeks' season at $1.10 per ticket per week, are sold the theater will open again on the Monday after Thanksgiving with as many of the members of the old Evanston Players as can be secured as a nucleus for a new company, accord- ing to the agreement between the chamber's committee and Clyde Elliott, manager of the theater. In appealing to the public for sup- port, the committee says: "If you de- sire that spoken plays ef highly enter- taining and decent character be offered for the people of Evanston, we should like to have your help. If enough join with us there will be a season of such plays. If enough do not, there will probably not be any such season." Interested persons are asked to com- municate with Loren Meyer, secretary of the chamber, or send him checks for the number of seats desired. The committee consists of Harper Payne, H. M. Rosenberg, A. H. Ullrich, C. S. Wallace, Edward R. Ladd, Allen D. Albert, Nels Hokanson and Peter N. Jans. Sophie Tucker Coming to Norshore Theater Monday Sophie Tucker, one of America's most famous songstresses and the highest paid individual woman enter- tainer in vaudeville, musical comedy or revue, will be the feature attraction at the Norshore theater for the week starting Sunday. The engagement of Miss Tucker at the popular north side theater climaxes a series of negotiations which have been conducted for some time to bring the song star direct to her thousands of admirers in Rogers Park, Evanston and the north shore. Miss Tucker will appear at no other north side theater, her Norshore the- ater engagement being her first Chi- cago booking since successful appear- ance in "Gay Paree," at the Four Cohan's theater. The customary stage show introduc- ing Al Kvale, the Norshore's stage director and his collegian orchestra will be offered. A cast of favorites will as- sist him. Th first neighborhood showing of Milton Sill's drama of World War aviators, "Hard Boiled Haggerty," will be the screen offering of the week. Sills plays the part of an American ace who wouldn't behave himself in war or love. Thrilling action in the air and hilarious as well as tender love- making in Paris gives the picture plenty of "audience appeal."
