November 26, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 45 "Good Fellows" to Bring Xmas Cheer to Vets' Families A call for volunteers to act as "Good Fellows" in order that the families of disabled war veterans may find cheer during this holiday season has been sounded by Mrs. Joseph Joyce, chair- man of Co-operation with War Vet- erans of the Tenth district. The un- fortunate men in government hos- pitals, many without compensation, also will be made happier by . the knowledge that their families are not forgotten. i Club women are urged to work through their club chairmen to aid this worthy charity. * A list of women who will be glad to hear from the "Good Fellows" and will see that their baskets are delivered to the needy families includes these names: Mrs. E. J. McArdle, Phone Wilmette 2013; Mrs. Willis Hutson Wil. 1447; Mrs. W. O. Green, Winnetka 2955; Mrs. William F. Schildgen, University 3602; Mrs. Helen Hepburn, Kenilworth 1901, and Mrs. Joseph Joyce, Kenilworth 2134. Mrs. Joyce states that the names of the needy families are being received from the United States Veterans' bu- reau and that these have been investi- gated. It is suggested that baskets containing the following should * be ready for delivery Friday, December 23: roast pork or fresh ham; 1 pound rice, 1 pound coffee, 1 pound tea, 5 pounds sugar, 3 pounds apples, 1 pound prunes, 1 can tomatoes, 1 can spaghetti, 1 can corn, 1 pound cookies, fresh vegetables. Mrs. Helen Hepburn and Mrs. Joyce also are prepared to assist in the work of helping those in the hospitals who are in great need of sweater suits, overcoats, shoes, shirts, caps and in any type of warm clothing. Wally's Golf Hints Editor's Note: Following is the fourth of a series of golf lessons written by Wally = Chamberlain, professional at Glencoe Golf course, and head of the North Shore Golf school, Winnetka, in which, from week to week will be pre- sented many helpful hints for those who are just taking up the game of golf, as well as those who have been playing for some time but adfnit the need for im- proving their game. The head is a very important thing and care should be taken to keep it still during the swing. Everybody has probably heard, "Keep your eye on the ball," which is very good advice. Lots of missed shots, however, are blamed on the eye when it is really a slight movement of the head, which comes up. You can turn your head a little with your shoulders in the back swing, but it must not move up and down. Most people when trying to hold their head still, at first do so by dropping the left shoulder and constricting the body, turning to the right to such an extent that they have no real pivot at all. This is also wrong. The shoulders should turn to the right as nearly level as pos- sible and. return the same way. It is not easy to do at first but once you get it you will find it easier to do than the other, and it enables you to keep your head still without any effort. SPEAKS ON RUSSIA The Study class met at the home of Mrs. Noble Gillett of Kenilworth Thursday of last week. Dr. Terry spoke on the internal political situation in Russia prior to the World war, fol- lowing the dramatic life of the nation from about 1870 up to the beginnings of the bolshevism. Next meeting he will speak on "Bismark's Europe." During the 109 years Illinois has been a state, it has had 26 governors. 56 ACRES HIGHLAND on west side of Green Bay Road adjoining Northmoor Country Club on the east. Water and sewer in. Once gone--always gone. The many people who are seriously considering WEST - MOOR TRAIL are thinking of it as the "ultimate" in home-building--the final word. Most of them came to the North Shore content for the moment to take less than they wanted--satisfied, at the time, to acquire what they could then conveniently obtain. For many reasons, such as more room for larger families-- the desire for greater privacy--more room in grounds as well as house--to get farther out--away from traffic--in short, the reasons which originally impelled them to come to the suburbs--those advantages they now want to really obtain. Ten or fifteen years ago most everybody except those directly engaged in the autemobile business, predicted the "saturation"' point just around the corner, since which time several million more cars have been added to the num- ber then in use. More than three million families now have two cars or more. len years from now, or sooner, a residence on the streets which are now little or only mod- erately used, will be comparable to a residence on a street car line or main thoroughfare of today. To those who have the vision to see it, to have a home on a drive over which through traffic can not be diverted-- will have an advantage which can't be calculated in dollars and cents. The places in Winnetka remaining where this advantage offers as great an assurance of privacy as WEST - MOOR TRAIL, are so few that they can be counted probably on one hand. And where they do exist--the cost is probably twice as much as one can now obtain a plot in WESTMOOR TRAIL. Here is a plot of ground on Hibbard extending West to the Skokie Playfield--high and dry-- (49.8 feet elevation above lake level at Hibbard and Westmoor) sloping naturally and gradually South and West-- 3 blocks to Hubbard Woods primary grade school-- half a mile to Skokie Junior High-- less than a mile to the Hubbard Woods station and a little over a mile to the Elm Street Station-- not too far--not too near; all of the advantages of the country plus all of the con- veniences of the Village-- freedom from dust and smoke and dirt-- quiet--peaceful--serene--and beautiful-- where Nature is working continuously to keep you duly appreciative of her grandeur--painting beautiful pic- tures--ever changing--to fit all moods. Certainly, beauty can't be reckoned in dollars and cents-- surely it has its influence for good in the lives of every member of the family. Here, then, you may have the home you ultimately want, expressing your own individuality in a setting of which you will never tire. WESTMOOR TRAIL is worthy of your serious consideration. There are so few tracts available--those who realize its advantages first are those who will benefit most. Ask anyone who lives in the neighbor- hood the advantages of location. All will tell you the same story-- all sing its praises. Nothing on the Nerth Shore can compare with overlooking the Skokie. And those who live in Winnetka simply won't live elsewhere, as a matter of choice. Call me up and make an appointment te see WESTMOOR TRAIL. If it is worth considering at all--it is worth having all its advantages pointed out which may not be apparent by casually driving by. Get all the facts--consider all the advantages--compare those advantages with anything else--find out who your neighbors will be--what the plan of development is. Then decide. The price won't deter you because it is much less than anything com- GLEN=:C.«BULL 500 Maple Ave. + . Phone Winnetka 1016
