Yn n 8C¢ ¢ December 10, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 45 Recall Early Days at Annual Session of Kenilworth Group The Historical society of Kenilworth, a unique organization having a$ its members people who have lived in Kenilworth for twenty years or more, held a well attended meeting last Sat- urday evening at the Kenilworth club. One hundred and ten members were present and Alexander Hannah was ad- mitted as a new member, having quali- fied with twenty years' residence in the village. The meeting consisted of dinner, during which there was community singing, a business meeting, in which new officers were elected, and some original entertainment. Mrs. E. D. Parmelee was elected president for the coming year, Henry Taylor, vice-president, Leon B. Allen, ry-treasurer, Mrs. Grant Ridge- way, chairman of the dinner committee, and Miss Helen Sears, historian. A one-act play, in the form of a "take-off" on commencement exercises in the Kenilworth public school twenty years ago, afforded a great deal of merriment. Louis D. Jones as Miss Martha Foote, a former teacher, and Ogden Cooke, as a pupil, were ex- tremely entertaining. During the course of the play, Mrs. Warren Pease, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Taylor, and H. O. Ed- monds, acting the parts of "visitors" to the school, sang several selections in quartet arrangement. Mrs. Loomis Hypes sang a group of typical songs with Mrs. Reed Landis accompanying her at the piano. Both were dressed as little school girls. Sam Clarke also en- tertained, with accordian music, and Kimball Root gave a group of negro songs and spirituals, accompanied by the guitar. Among some of the pupils in the school were Mrs. Ward Stafrett, T.oomis Hypes, and Herbert Taylor. Alpha Phi Sorority to Dedicate House Sunday Invitations numbering 350 have been issued for a dedication service to be held at the Alpha Phi house Sunday, December 11, from 2 until 4, which will be followed by a tea. The guests of honor will be Mrs. William P. Good- smith of Chicago and Miss Claire Lattin of Sycamore, Ill., who are found- ers of the local chapter. Members of the governing board of the Alpha Phi House association will receive. These include Mrs. Thomas Moulding, Mrs. Leland V. Pierson, Miss Edith Dillon, of Wilmette, Mrs. Donald W. The Happs, with their daughter, Cynthia, are moving next week to Fort Madi- son, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bowers of 554 Orchard lane gave a dinner Monday evening, the Charles Sutherlands entertained Wednesday evening at their home, 305 Poplar street, and Mrs. M. G. Goss of 580 Orchard lane gave a luncheon and bridge party yesterday for Mrs. Happ. MOTHERS GUESTS AT TEA The Northwestern alumnae of Alpha Chi Omega entertained the mothers of the Gamma chapter at a tea on Mon- day, December 5, at their new chapter house. The receiving line included Mrs. W. M. Mitchell, Mrs. W. L. Tackson. Mrs. Ralph Dennis, and Mrs. Robert L. Price. "Has Marriage a Future", Subject at Uptown Forum "Has Marriage a Future" will be the subject for discussion at the Up- town Forum, Sunday evening, Decem- ber 11. John Haynes Holmes of New York, nationally-known for his bold pronouncements upon public questions will be the speaker. Dr. Holmes is minister of the Com- munity church in New York and is editor of the weekly journal "Unity" established in Chicago many years ago by Jenkins Lloyd Jones, of Abraham Lincoln Center. A surprise party was given in honor of Joseph Shoenthal"s seventeenth birthday by a number of his friends Saturday evening, December 3.
