SHANNON IS SUNDAY CLUB SPEAKER Famous Minister of Central Church, Chicago, to Deliver New Year's Message Dr. Frederick F. Shannon, pastor of Central church, Chicago, will deliver the New Year's message to the Wil- mette Sunday Evening club Sunday evening, January 1, at the First Con- gregational church of Wilmette. Miss Anne Slack, cellist, will furnish the special music for the evening. Dr. Shannon is one of the best known ministers in the Middle West. He succeeded Dr. Frank W. Gunsaulus as pastor of Central church in 1920. He came to Chicago from the well known Reform church on the Heights, Brooklyn, where he was pastor from 1912 to 1919. Noted Author Dr. Shannon is the author of "The Soul's Atlas and Other Sermons," 1911; "The New Personality," 1915; "The Enchanted Universe," 1916 : "The 3reath in the Winds," 1918; "God's Faith in Man," 1919; "The. Economic Eden," "The Land of Beginning Again," "The Infinite Artist," "The Country Faith," "A Moneyless Mag- nate," "The New Greatness." A capacity audience enjoyed the Christmas program given at the Sun- day Evening club last week when 65 choristers represented in the combined choirs of the various Wilmette Protes- tant churches presented Handel's "Messiah." In fact so enthusiastic was the reception accorded the singers, the executive board has been prompt- ed, in response to many requests, to establish this program as an annual event of the Sunday Evening club sea- son. An unusual incident in connection with last Sunday's presentation was the appearance of Adolf Engstrom, tenor soloist with the famous St. Olaf's choir of Northfield, Minn., in the quartet of soloists who assisted in the program. Mr. Engstrom, who was a visitor on the north shore at the time, took the place of Eugene F. Dressler, who was unable to be present. Other solo parts were taken by Miss Helen Protheroe, soprano; Mme. Gil- deroy Scott, contralto; and Rollin Pease, bass. The organist was Porter W. Heaps, and the director, Charles E. Lutton. Three Cars Feature in Crash on Christmas Day Three automobiles featured in an accident Christmas morning on Sheri- dan road at Woodstock avenue in Kenilworth which resulted in material damage to all three machines. The accident occurred when two of the cars driven by Arthur Alschuler, 307 Van Buren street, Chicago, and Marshall Dudley of 414 Warwick road, Kenil- worth, collided. The force of the im- pact caused Dudley's car to swerve into the third machine owned by J. L. Cooke, 110 Broadway, Wilmette. None of the occupants of the three machines was injured. TEACHERS AT SESSIONS Several north shore grade school teachers attended the seventy-fourth annual meeting of the Illinois State Teachers' association held at Spring- field this week. Most of the sessions were held in the Centennial building which is connected by tunnel corridor with the State House. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bruce Robinson of 112 Woodbine avenue, Wilmette, announce the birth of a son, Donald Bruce, Jr., December 26, at the Evans- ton hospital.
