E. BYRD Women Voters Interested in Lecture of Airman Explorer Members of the Winnetka league are interesting themselves actively in ad- vancement of the lecture which Com- mander Richard E. Byrd will give under auspices of the Illinois League of Women Voters in Chicago, Sunday evening, Jan. 25. He will speak at Orchestra hall, tell- ing the story of his recent trans- Atlantic flight and outlining his next undertaking--an aerial expedition to the South pole. On this latter he ex- pects to build a tiny city on the rim of the bieak Antarctic continent as a base of his flight to the South pole. This will comprise portable houses, machine shops, radio station, airdrome and food and fuel depots. Additional to the description of these undertakings, Commander Byrd will show motion pictures including many exclusive "shots" taken of the trans-. Atlantic flight. He was in charge of navigating arrangements for the flight of the N-C planes across the Atlantic in 1919, and of the navy planes in the Macmillan expedition which resulted in his own flight with Floyd Bennett to the North pole. He is a native of Virginia of which state his brother is governor, Miss Jane Replogle celebrated her tenth birthday on December 29, by giving a luncheon for twelve of her friends. Tankers to Meet Proviso Men Monday Afternoon Proviso High school swimmers come to New Trier next Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, for the third meet of the New Trier season. After {osing to Deerfield on Decem- ber 1, New Trier seniors took a meet from Lake View High on December 21. The local juniors have had but one meet to date, defeating Deerfield High by the score of 22 to 10. The steady improvement of the New Trier tank men in the time be- tween the two former meets indicates that the grey-and-green lads have the edge over the invaders from Maywood. Capt. Laurin Bennett of the New Trier seniors broke the record for the forty- yard swim in the New Trier pool with the time of 19 2-5 seconds in the Lake View tilt. Coach Edgar Jackson will probably use Bennett in the forty-yard swim, Rich and Rogers in the backstroke, Read and Netterstrom in the breast- stroke, and D. Grandstrom and En- chelmeyer in the diving. The line-up for the other events will not be cho- sen until a day or two before the meet. The junior swimmers have not been assigned positions, although Roos and Zinner or Bent will probably do the honors for the school in the distance events, Swabacher and Barnard will dive, and the relayers will most likely be N. Granstrom, French, Roos and Prussing. TEACHER TAKES POST Mrs. Clara Paulmateer assumed her new duties as teacher of the third grade of the Greeley school this week upon the reconvening of classes fol- lowing the holiday period. Mrs. Paul- mateer takes the place of Miss Vera Barnes who was married during tle Christmas vacation.
