J. Crowe, president of the Sanitary district, in- clude the landscaping of the canal banks, the completion of the installa- tion of the McCormick road lighting system and the erection of bridges as the items which will be direct im- provements of the canal section be- tween Howard street and Lake Michi- gan. Of the more than one million dollars appropriated for these items, the ex- act amount which will be allowed for improvements of the Evanston section of the channel has not been specified. "The extent of the work in Evanston depends on what the city of Chicago does," states John T. Miller, district engineer. If Chicago widens. Lincoln avenue, a new bridge will be built for that road, and the amount avail- able for Evanston's section will be lessened. However, erection of new bridges at Oakton street and Demp- ster street are before the trustees, states Mr. Miller. Devon avenue is another of the 5 or 6 crossings for which bridges are being considered. For bridges, $400,000 was appropriated in the budget. Harney of Chicago, well known on the north shore, will sing at all four of the performances at the Oriental theater Sunday. The Rev. Father Rianelty, who re- cently came to the United States from Germany, is visiting in Wilmette dur- ing the absence of Rev. Father Ber- nard Brady, pastor of St. Francis Xavier church, who has gone to Flori- da. Father Rianelty expects to go abroad shortly where he will teach several languages. Announce Marriage The marriage of Miss Inez Brooke, daughter of the late Mrs. Jean Brooke of Chicago, to Edwin Tubbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eston V. Children's Aid Society Announces Annual Session The annual meeting of The Illinois Children's Home and Aid society will be held Tuesday after- noon, January 24 at 2:30 o'clock, at The 'Casino, 167 East Delaware place, Chicago. There will be a short busi- psy session followed by an address by A. H. Stoneman, president of The Child Welfare League of America and superintendent of The Michigan Chil- dren's society. This meeting is open to all friends of the society, and directors for the ensuing year will be elected. Reports to be presented at this meet- ing show the society closed the year with 1854 children under its care; that service was given to more than 5000 different children in the twelve months and that 569 new children were re- ceived as wards of the Society.
