H. Cromlie of Spokane, Wash, visiting with her sister, Mrs. E. S. Har- lan of 430 Sheridan road, Kenilworth, slipped on the front steps and fell, breaking her ankle. She was rushed to the Evanston hospital where the fractured bones were set and where she is now convalescing. The accident, which occurred on Wednesday of last week, presented an unusual situation, however, for passage on a steamer leaving New York on Monday of this week had already been booked and another sister, Mrs. C. M. Schindel of Colville, Wash., was await- ing Mrs. Cromlie's arrival in New York. A hasty survey of the problem of- fered but one solution--the procura- tion of some other person to take the trip. Preparing for such an extended trip in scarcely more than forty-eight hours loomed as quite an obstacle to over-come but Miss Helen Harlan, tackled the problem with considerable haste and more than an exceptional amount of determination. : Saturday morning found Miss Har- lan well on the road to New York City and last Monday she was listed as a passenger on a liner being warped out into the river for quick passage to the sea. Cuba, the Panama canal, the Orient, India, Egypt, the Holy Land, Italy, Spain, England--all lie before her. "It seems that 'fate' may turn with even an ankle," Miss Har- lan's friends remarked.
