Pearson When in doubt about a site for your club, just go ahead and select a spot on the north shore. That in brief seems to be what is happening in these days of bigger and better club- dom. There never has been the call for clubs in such volume as at the pres- ent time, and the Chicagoans who form the nucleus for various organiza- tions which have been formed in the last couple of years or who are form- ing newer organizations certainly have shown discrimination in selecting the section in which they desire to go. The cry has been "To the North," and that's the thing that prompts this story. Here are a few names in clubdom, which isn't exactly news, because these clubs many months ago announced their plans and are ready to start con- struction of pretentious clubhouses: Shawnee club, at Michigan and Lake avenues in Wilmette, Vista del Lago club on the lake in No Man's Land, and Breakers Beach club on the lake in No Man's Land. These are only a few, for almost monthly we hear of some new club which is to locate on the north shore. Haddon Club Arrives The latest we hear about is the Had- don Hunt and Hurdle club, a brand new organization which is to locate in Lake County to the north of our fair villages. This is to be a $1,000,000 or- ganization. The Haddon Hunt and Hurdle club, named for Col. W. C. Haddon, rank- ing officer of the 84th division, U. S. army, who is developing it, will oc- cupy a 350 acre tract on both sides of the Des Plaines river, about seven miles north of Libertyville. Architect Charles D. Faulkner of Chicago has designed a group of club buildings which we believe will rank with anything of its kind in the coun- try. Just take a peek at the pictures of it in the adjoining columns and see if you don't agree. Twenty Acre Polo Field Ground plans call for a twenty acre polo field, a three mile bridle path, space for trap shooting, an artificial lake big enough for match outdoor hockey games. an eighteen hole golf course, etc. The stable and kennel facilities will be of generous proportions. The sta- ble will accommodate 110 horses. The kennels will house ninety-five dogs. The main club building, designed in the English Tudor style, will follow the old English manor house idea. The main lounge and ballroom will be 48x75 and over two stories in height, designed after the manner of an English baronial ballroom.
