Winnetka Youth Elected to Journalism Fraternity Nine students of the Medill School of Journalism of Northwestern uni- versity, have been honored by election to membership in Sigma Delta Chi, national honorary and professional journalistic fraternity. With but one exception, all of these men will return to Medill next year to take a large part of the responsibility for the na- tional convention of Sigma Delta Chi, which is to be held at Northwestern next year, announces Cecil J. Davies of 652 Lincoln avenue, who left last Sunday to attend the annual meeting of the Religious Educational association of the United States and Canada, which was held in Philadelphia this year, returned home vesterday in time for the meeting of the Community House canvassers, which was held last evening. Doris Scheerer entertained twenty- five of her friends on her ninth birth- day last Saturday, at a theater party at the Teatro del Lago. After the theater the girls went to Doris' home, 250 Poplar street, for refreshments. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Scheerer. WINNETKA 999 Alpha Gamma Delts Hold Initiation and Banquet Alpha Gamma Delta sorority of Northwestern university held its formal initiation Saturday, February 25. Those initiated were: Alma Lee Ball, Luana Christian, Florence Ewert, Margery Heinrichs, Mary Lucille Kiefer, Virginia Klein, Valborg Linde, Margaret Ryan, Margaret Smith, Louise Spotswood, Edel Guard Walker, and Julia Chant of Beta Alpha chapter. Following the initiation, the Rose banquet was celebrated in honor of Founder's day and the new initiates. The surprise of the evening was afforded by the present of a five pound box of candy sent by Ruth Chinland class of 28, and J. Sigurd Johnson, Sigma Mu Sigma of the Uni- versity of Illinois in the class of '25, in announcement of their engagement. The annual banquet was completed with toasts given by representatives of each college year, Ruth Cambourn, newly elected president, was toast- mistress. ACCEPTED AT SWARTHMORE Miss Helen Gates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie F. Gates, 723 Eighth street, Wilmette, has been notified of her admission into Swarthmore college, in Philadelphia. Miss Gates, now a senior at New Trier, has maintained a very high scholastic average through- out her four years there, and has been prominent in outside activities in addi- tion. Her high standing and many other qualifications have secured her admis- sion into Swarthmore, out of a wide field of applicants. PURIM DANCE TONIGHT The Purim dance of the North Shore Congregation Israel will be held at the new temple center, Lincoln and Vernon avenues, Glencoe, on Saturday eve- ning, March 10. There will be dancing from 9 till 12 o'clock. There will be no admission charge. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Lum of 627 Lincoln avenue have just returned home from a five weeks' trip in the Fast. Their time was divided between visits in Greenwich, Schenectady, and New York City.
