HIGH IN SCHOLARSHIP Several New Trier girls have achieved splendid records at Rockford college this year, according to reports received by the school. Ruth Olson received five A's, an A in every sub- ject, and Elizabeth Freund and Cath- erine Cook both received 2 A's and 3 B's in their five subjects. HEAR OF CHINA MISSIONS The Rev. Paul Hutchinson spoke on missionary work in China, at the Young People's meeting in the Con- gregational church last Sunday eve- ning. He emphasized the fact that not only does the missionary teach the Chinese, but also he learns much from them. It is a give and take arrangement. He gave many interest- ing examples and illustrations of this and other points from his own ex- periences in China. S. Scott Joy, 370 Sheridan road, re- cently returned from Florida to his residence for a few days. He reports that Mrs. Joy, Miss Dorothy Joy, Miss Elizabeth Joy and Bob Joy are all busy in Florida with golf, tennis and swim- ming. The talks are open to any of them who are interested, as well as to the club members. Next Thurs- day at 3:30 Dr. John 1. Levy, psychiatrist with the Institute of Tuvenile Research, will speak on "The Superior Child and His Problems of Adjustment," discussing what the at- titude of the parent and teacher to- ward the superior child should be. Dr. Levy, a man of unusual attainments and splendid ability, was chosen by the Commonwealth Fund of New York to come to the institute. He has lectured all over Chicago. This week's talk was on "The Spoiled Child," and was given by Miss Ethel Kawin, a psychologist with the Institute of Juvenile Research. "The Nervous Child" was the subject on March 1. The speaker was Dr. Edwin Eisler, executive director of the mental hygiene department of Michael Reese hospital, and a member of the Northwestern University faculty. Dr. Eisler began his talk with a description of the characteristics of the nervous child, stating that nervousness has a variety of manifestations, such as curiosity, exploration, marked dis- tractibility, and impulsive tendencies. The nervous child needs success up to his natural capacity. Children who have under-energy tendencies, such as laziness, indicate something complex. In order to investigate the nervous child, one must know his home, school, physical history, and his mental and emotional makeup. This lecture was very well attended, and the audience showed marked in- terest by asking many intelligent questions. Benefit Bridge Helps to Bring English Hockeyites Under the auspices of the North Shore Hockey association, a bridge benefit was given at the home of the Walter A. Lamsons, 940 Sheridan road, Winnetka, Tuesday afternoon, March 6. The purpose of the affair was to raise the first $100 to assist in defray- ing the expenses of the English Field Hockey team in its United States tour next fall, On November 8 the English team is to play the team of the North Shore Hockey association on the football field of New Trier High school, whic! will be fixed for this game, throu the courtesy and permission of Fred- erick E. Clerk, principal of New Trier. The North Shore Hockey association is made up of two Winnetka teams and one from Evanston. Previous to the forming of this new hockey association the Winnetka association was connect- ed with the Chicago association. Any person from any of the other suburbs who wish to become members, but whose village does not have a hockey team, may become a member of this association upon approval by the offi- cers and members. Mrs. Thomas McLaren, 1004 Pine street, is president of this association. She and Miss Elizabeth Lamson were hostesses at the benefit last Tuesday.
