She will sing on Saturday after- noon at the reception following the wedding of Miss Virginia Smetanka | and Edward J. Prebis at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Smetanka, of Chicago. Mrs. Arthur F. The new building is planned for the site on Wilmette avenue just north of the Postoffice which is owned and occu- pied by St. Augustine's Episcopal church. Reports that the deal for the sale of the land by the church to McGuire and Orr had been closed are incor- rect according to those in a position to know. While those most inter- ested in the project have been busy working out plans and moving for- ward with assurance, it can be stated that at this time the negotiations for the property have progressed no farther than thirty days ago when McGuire and Orr, who plan to erect the new building, secured an option on the ground. Until this option is exercised--it does not expire until June 12--the big project cannot get under way. Confident Deal Will Go Through McGuire and Orr and also those in authority at St. Augustine's church feel assured that the deal will go through before the period of the op- tion runs out, but until the papers have actually been signed conveying the property to the real estate men nothing definite can be announced. "We believe that the deal will go through," said Dr. Hubert Carleton, pastor of St. Augustine's church. "We {granted a double option to McGuire and Orr when they sought to pur- chase our property, meaning a mini- mum and a maximum option period. The minimum of thirty days has ex- pired and the deal has not been closed but there still remain about sixty days as provided by the maxi- mum option and we believe that be- fore June 12, the conveyance will be recorded. It may happen any day." It is not known whether McGuire and Orr are acting for themselves or for another buyer. But one thing can be stated and that is that if the deal is closed the erection of the new building will provide a colossal de- velopment in the business section of the village. New Site for St. Augustine's Also it will mean the completion of another big deal which will result in a change of location of St. Augus- tine's church. The church, having as- surance that the property it now oc- cupies will be sold, obtained an option on a tract of land at the corner of Wilmette and Lake avenues. This property is owned by Mrs. Frank Tol- man and it will be purchased by the church just as soon as McGuire and Orr exercise their option on the pres- ent church property. Plans which already have been drawn for the new business block by Architect William T. Braun, show a structure of the Tudor style. It will be two stories in height and will con- tain twelve stores, twelve offices on the second floor and eighteen apart- ments of two, three and four rooms each. The apartments, it is stated, will have all modern improvements. The exterior walls of the building will be of the same material on all sides. Recreation facilities for the residents will be located in the rear of the structure and will consist of tennis courts and a playground. The building will front 233 feet on the west side of Wilmette avenue. *-
