68 WINNETKA TALK April 21, 192% Two Scenes from "Everyman" Staged at St. Elisabeth's Church (Lehle photos) Px YERS of Glencoe church give fine production of Fifteenth Century morality play displaying the talent and a human simplicity that spelled success. The play delighted those who attended and indicates that the players of the Church of St. Elisabeth may stage other fine revivals. Those appearing in the top picture (left to right) are: Mrs. Gordon Laughead, Miss Harriet Postle, Joseph K. Shippen, William B. Baehr, John H. Weddell and Mrs. W. Summer Covey. In the lower picture (left to right) are: Miss Postle, Mrs: Laughead and Mrs. Covey. The rhymed translation was used which would have been a difficult hurdle io surmount for less seasoned actors. However, the lines flowed easily and naturally and to say the players caught the spirit of the play is putting i} mildly. Everything about the perform- ance, the simplicity of staging, exact- ness of costuming, and the voice and gestures -of the actors themselves, was expertly handled. The play is one thai should be a part of everyone's cultural knowledge, since it was one of the first morality plays used to link up the scriptural and secular drama.
