New Trier showed up best in the mile, winning all three places. Ted Burgess, who usually runs the half, showed his versatility by hitting the tape far ahead of the rest. Hilton came in next with Ferrman right on his heels. The remaining milers were nearly 50 yards behind. The half-mile relay was the deciding event and consequently the most ex- citing. The Green and Gray was only one point ahead before the relay. Guy, who started for New Trier, received so much elbowing that Elgin was ahead when he passed the baton to Hoffman. Hoffman lit out like a scared jackrabbit though and was able to pass Marty Cassell a nice lead. Marty passed a bigger lead to Tom Brown. Then New Trierites got an awful scare for Elgin's anchor man began to overhaul Brown like a motor- cycle cop until he got within two paces of him. That was as near as he could get though, and New Trier won the relay and the meet. : Austin of Elgin won the 100 yard dash. Levandusky, Waukegan's stel- lar dashman, tied for second _place with Guy, New Trier's best sprinter. The same men won the places in the 220 yard dash only in different order. Levandusky beat Austin out of first place and Guy came in third. Hoffman stepped out way ahead of the rest in the quarter mile but he dropped to the end in the last 50 yards ;and Marty Cassell breezed in first as 'he usually does. McCarthy and Born, both from Elgin, came in next. Hubert won the high hurdles for Elgin, Gordon of the home team came in second and Leach got third place for New Trier. Gordon won the low hurdles and Bartholomew. brought the Green and Gray in second. "Bart" also got third in both the high and broad jump. Hubert was as good in the high jump as he was in the high hurdles. Carl Hall was a close second. He. won two other seconds for New Trier in the shot put ;and the javelin throw. © Blank won the shot put for Elgin and Bulhvan placed right after his team-mate 'Hall. . Kershaw surprised and pleased Coach 'Nay by throwing the javelin farthest. Sullivan was the only New Trier man to place in the discus throw. Koch, an 'Elgin man, was first and Make of Wau- kegan threw it the next farthest. = © Kershaw tied with Danfort, an Elginite, for second in the pole vault. Cooper vaulted 10 feet nine inches to win the, event for Elgin. hie po. © Hubert was high point man for the Seniors, winning the high hurdles and 'high jump for Elgin. Hall was a close 'second, making 9 points for New Trier. MacIntosh won 18 points for the Gray sand Green Juniors. He had to share the ~honor of being high point man with *Malmburg of Waukegan though, for "Malmburg also won three firsts and a "second. Spiegel and Williams also amassed plenty of points for New Trier, Felting eleven and nine points respect- fully. ; ¢ Hill and Powell were the only other iN. T. Juniors who were able to get as fmuch as a second place. Hill won sec- ond place in the high jump and the pole vault and third in the low hurdles. Powell came in second in the 660-yard run by 'a wonderful display of what is com- 'monly called guts--intestinal fortitude. ~ The Waukegan baton-passers won their event easily. Coach Nay is still far from satisfied with his Junior relay team. Senior Summaries . 100-Yard Dash--1. Austin (E), 2. Tie 'between Guy (N. T.) and Levandusky #(W). Time :10.4. 220-Yard Run--1.
