Crowe of the: Sani- tary district that the board of trustees have approved a program for intefisive mosquite" control work throughout: the district this season. The work; which will be begun at once, will be catried out in full co-operation with officials of the Cook County Forest Preserves, the Gorgas Memorial Institute, and the two newly organized Des Plaines Val- ley and North Shore Mosquito Abate- ment districts, it is stated. - President Crowe, in comment on this announcement said: "For several years the mosquito nuisance in this region has been increasing at an appalling rate, and it is obvious that something must be done to get rid of this pest. "The Sanitary District trustees, after receiving reports from its investigators that the mosquito situation is closely allied with sanitation and drainage problems of the district, and consti- tutes a health hazard, as well as an extreme public nuisance, are unani- mous in their desire to serve the people in eliminating these pests. "We know full well that it is a big job, but if it is to be done at all, it must be done well, and we have laid out plans accordingly. We shall co- operate fully with all public and private agencies interested in the mosquito problem." President Anthony J. Cermak of the Cook County board, who has been an advocate of mosquito abatement work in this region for several years, had promised the active co-operation of the county in eliminating breeding places in the forest preserves and along county highway rights-of-way.
