ich _- TATE a" ay April 28, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 47 Over 1,000 Students Unite to Ewntertain Crowds at Big Circus One thousand and forty - three Northwestern university students will concentrate their efforts to entertain Evanston townspeople this week-end when they will all take part in the annual Purple collegiate circus, which opens tomorrow afternoon on the cam- pus. Culminating weeks of practice in the individual group stunts which will be shown Friday and Saturday nights, the performances will contain student talent, almost entirely, except for one or two professional acts. . The circus will open Friday after- noon with side-shows, a sword-walker, a magician and fortune tellers, and all sorts of regular circus features. There will be a huge merry-go-round, a twis- ter, and a ferris-wheel, along with a number of new features to be added this year. The annual inter-sorority relays, with men carrying the sorority colors, will take place Friday after- noon also. Acts by Greek Letter Societies The performance under the big top will start at 8 p. m. and will con- tain eighteen {fraternity and sorority stunts, selected as the best from double that number turned in to the judges. During the entire two days of the circus Evanston's first automobile show in several years, under the super- vision of the circus, will be held on the grounds. Admission will be free, ac- cording to Production Manager George MacBean, and it is expected that a great crowd will attend. Thir- teen local dealers have entered 22 cars, MacBean stated. The monstrous three-mile parade which will go all over Evanston Satur- day morning is completed with some 45 floats registered at present. The march, which will start at 10 a m., is expected to go through downtown Evanston and partly up around south Evanston. To Pick Best Floats Four prominent judges have been secured by the manager of this year's parade, and Mayor Charles H. Bart- lett, Harvey T. Woodruff, Tribune sports writer, Thomas Airth, local businessman, and W. P. Reed, Win- netka secretary of the Union League club, will cast their votes for the three best fraternity and sorority floats. Saturday afternoon will be featured by the gigantic water-circus, at which such stars as Walter Laufer, Ethel Lackie, Wallace O'Connor, Richard Hinch, Walter Colbath and many others will perform.
