FRANK H. JONES Mrs. Frank H. Jones, for many years a resident of Wilmette but now of Evanston, is chairman of the St. Francis Hospital foundation, an organ- ization formed this last winter which is making plans for an early summer festival to be held June 16, at the hos- pital on the sloping grounds to the east and back of the main building. Arrangements for the occasion were developed recently at a meeting of the organization. Booths for merchandise will be arranged around the grounds with many decorations to give a festi- val atmosphere. Playlets, musicales and readings will be part of the enter- tainment and a dinner will be served in the evening. A continuous card party will be conducted at the same time in the Nurses' home. Among those on the committee in charge are Mrs. Frederick McLaughlin 1928 to be Greatest Road Building Year in History Reports from the Bureau of Public Roads in Washington indicate that 1928 will be the greatest road building year in the history of the country. Estimates now in the bureau from the state highway departments show that more than 20,000 miles of surfaced highway will be built and about 8,000 more miles will be graded by the Chi- cago Motor club. The state highway departments of the forty-eight com- monwealths will maintain this year a grand total of 240,000 miles of high- way. This means that the American motoring public will have a total of serviceable highway available this year greater than almost the whole of Europe can offer. And the cost? The Bureau of Public Roads estimates that the state highway departments will spend upwards of $750,000,000 on road building and maintenance this year and that county and other local expenditures will swell the grand to- tal to $1,300,000,000. A great sum, but always with the understanding that every dollar spent on roads is an in- vestment that pays the highest possi- ble dividends. Mr, and Mrs. Andrew S.
