May 5, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 7 Retain David Owen as Guild Director for 1925-29 Season The board of directors of the North Shore Theater Guild has announced the retention of David Owen as direc- tor of the Guild for next year. A new branch of activity for the Guild is also planned for next year. As announced in the program for "Tons of Money," a three-act comedy presented during the last two weeks along the north shore, the directors have for some time felt the embar- rassment of having more members who wished training in acting than there were opportunities available. They. have also felt that while there should be no relaxation in the effort to produce creditable plays, credit- ably performed, progress of the guild as a whole required some extension of its activity. After much considera- tion, it has been determined to open a School of Acting as an additional feature of guild activities. The School of Acting will be com- pletely under the personal direction of Mr. Owen. Two types of instruc- tion are planned: first, one or possi- bly two class courses, continuing over thirty weeks, with twelve hours a week of instruction in classes of probably not more than ten persons. This course will be a complete and well-rounded course in pantomime, speech and diction, make-up, and re- hearsal. Second, there will be in- dividual courses ten week terms for separate intensive instruction. A per- manent home for the School will be secured, and Mr. Owen will give his entire time to the School and the di- rection of the four usual Guild plays. The proceeds of membership in the Guild will be used as in the past sole- ly for the production of plays. The school will be financed by tuition fees and from outside sources. It is be- lieved that this project will meet a genuine demand on the part of the guild members. For the present, en- rollment will be limited to the mem- bers of the guild and their families. A. in Annual Meeting at Horace Mann on May 14 The annual meeting of the Parent- Teacher association of the Winnetka Public schools will be held at the Horace Mann school at 3 o'clock Mon- day afternoon, May 14. A brief business meeting and elec- tion of officers for the coming year, will be followed by a program of mu- sic given by the children of the lower schools, with their band and Glee club. W. Blow Returns Home in Full Vim and Health B. W. Blow, dealer in building ma- terial and general teaming contractor, at 660 Center street, Winnetka, re- turned this week from Tucson, Ari- zona, where he has been the past fif- teen months for the benefit of his health. He has found the relief he sought, and returns in his old time health and vigor. Mr. Blow has long been actively identified with the busi- ness interests of the village, including the Chamber of Commerce, and also in the Winnetka Rotary club. While in Tucson he was a regular attendant of the Rotary club meetings in that city. Betrothal Announced at Shower for Bride-Elect Miss Priscilla Conrad of Highland Park will be married on May 7, to Harold Fossum, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. Fossum of 1021 Cherry street. On Sunday evening, April 29, Miss Edith Lindwall, assisted by her sisters, Lil- lian, Anna and Beb, gave a miscella- neous shower at their home, 1020 Oak street, in honor of Miss Conrad and Mr. Fossum.
