44 WINNETKA TALK May 12, 1928 U. of C. to Be Scene of Great Prep Track Events The country's biggest track meet, the twenty-fourth annual national track interscholastic at the University of Chicago, will be open 0 the public free of charge again this year. More than a thousand of the nation's star prep athletes will compete in the high school and academy sections. The meet will be held June 1 and 2 at Stagg Field. General Douglas McArthur, presi- dent of the Olympic committee, has designated the Stagg interscholastic as an Olympic tryout. Winning perform- ances in the meet are equal to most of the marks of intercollegiate compe- tition, and in past years the winning achievements have been of Olympic standard. Lee Barnes, now of South- ern California, went to the 1924 Olym- pic meet after winning the Stagg Interscholastic. Practically all of the college stars have won their first national recognition in the Stagg meet. Mrs. Frederick H.
