May 19, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 45 BEGIN SUBSCRIPTION DRIVE FOR RAVINIA Ravinia Club Elects Officers and Names Town Committees; Sell Opera Coupons The town committees of the Ravinia club, which, comprising about 200 north shore women representative of the various towns extending from Rogers Park to Waukegan, form an auxiliary force for the promotion of Ravinia opera and concerts, have completed their organization ond are now actively engaged with their sea- son's work, The Ravinia club, which has been in existence for many years, held its annual luncheon at the Moraine hotel, Highland Park, last week, at which time "Louis Eckstein outlined the plans he has formulated for the coming season of Ravinia opera and concerts, which is to begin Sat- urday night, June 23. As Mr. Eckstein told the club mem- bers of the array of artists he has engaged for the pending season, there was enthusiastic response on the part of his auditors. The announcement that all the world-famous singers who helped to make the season of 1927 memorable in the annals of operatic history would return, brought rounds of applause, and an outburst of aprov- al greeted the statement that in addi- tion to these artists, the roster will contain the names of several who, although prime favorites at Ravinia in stasons past have not been heard there for some time. Begin Subscription Campaign Realizing that the Ravinia under- taking this year is greater than ever it has been before, the members of the Ravinia club resolved to begin their work at once, with the result that the committees have now been appointed and have taken up their allotted tasks in earnest. The work upon which the club is now engaged is the taking of subscriptions for the Ravinia coupon books, which give the holders twenty admissions to Ravinia at a reduced rate, It is the concensus of these north shore women that there should be a Ravinia coupon book in every home, and they have set out to achieve this result. These women believe in Ravinia as a community enterprise and realize that it is maintained season after season for the benefit of the community at large, which means the entire Chicago district. They know that there is no intention of making it yield a profit and are thoroughly imbued with the idea that it is the duty of those it serves so well, to lend it their co- operation in every possible way. It is pointed out that the cul- tural and artistic value of Ravinia is inestimable and that occupying as it does, a place apart in the field of operatic endeavor, Ravinia sheds a luster on the Chicago district which makes this the center of artistic attrac- tion during the ten weeks and three days of the season.
