Winnetka 330 (1089-3) EMMERSON REITERATES PRE-PRIMARY PLEDGES Replies to Wilmette Advisory Committee as Foe of Crime- Politics Alliance Because of the failure of the Re- publican State convention to consider Senator Charles S. Deneen's proposed plank against the alliance between politics and crime, the Wilmette Vot- ers' Advisory committee has sought an expression of the head of the Republi- can ticket, Louis L. Emmerson, on the subject. Mr. Emmerson, in reply to a letter addressed to him a few weeks ago by the Advisory committee, repre- senting Wilmette churches and civic organizations, has come out un- equivocably against any alliance be- tween politics and crime. Mr. Emmer- son's reply, addressed to Hoyt King, secretary of the committee, reads: Cites Record as Answer "Mr. King and members of the com- mittee: "I have your letter asking me to state my position relative to the 'di- vorce of politics from crime.' "I should think my whole private and public career would be sufficient guarantee of my attitude. I have never been aligned with the criminal element in politics or elsewhere and certainly have no intention of being aligned with that element now. My campaign for the Republican nomina- tion for governor was made on a platform of good government. No government is a good government un- less it protects the decent, law abid- ing citizen in his home and at his business and assures him the right to have his ballot cast without interfer- ence and honestly counted when cast. Neither. is it good government if the criminal element in our society has any domination of or influence with those charged with its administration. Stands by Pledges "I pledged the people that if nom- inated and elected I would give them an administration free from graft, ex- travagance or mismanagement.
