Marquardt, assistant vice- president of the First Trust and Sav- ings bank, Chicago, and a resident of Wilmette, has been elected president of the Savings Association of Loop Banks composed of more than twenty of the large downtown banks. Mr. Marquardt has been a member of the executive committee of the as- sociation and is active in committee work of the American Bankers' asso- ciation, having recently addressed the mid-west conference of that organiza- tion on "Human Engineering--A Busi- ness Need." Associate Alumnae and League of Women Voters Sponsoring Two- Concert Benefit The associate alumnae of North- western university, together with the Evanston League of Women Voters, are sponsoring two concerts by Sousa and his band Saturday, September 22, in the Patten gymnasium. In the after- noon the program will be selected to appeal to children, while the evening concert will be for adults. The concert is under the manage- ment of Mrs. W. T. Hall, president of the associate alumnae; Mrs. Martin Kent Northam, president of the Ev- anston League of Women Voters; Mrs. Charles H. Betts, treasurer for the benefit; and Mrs. Leighton Jones and Mrs. U. S. Grant, co-chairmen of tickets. Those acting on the general commit- tee as representatives of the following organizations are: Mrs. Wirt Humph- rey, the Woman's Building association of the University Guild; Mrs. E. B. Fowler, the Quadrangle association of Northwestern; Dorothy Mohr, Sigma Sigma Delta, the open sorority or- ganization on the campus; Mrs. James A. James, University circle; Dorothy Lewis, Young Woman's auxiliary: of the Woman's club of Evanston; Mrs. W. M. Parkes, Evanston Junior league; Mrs. Benton McMillan. Grade schools of Evanston: Mrs. Richard Breedon, parochial schools; Mrs. R. S. McCall, Chicago area; Mrs. Harvey Edwards, League of Women Voters; Mrs. E. H. Schulze and Mrs. Grace Hanbury, McKinlock campus, Chicago. Plans are being made to have repre- sentatives in all of the north shore towns as well, co-operating with this: committee in the carrying out of its plans. The press committee for the concert is composed of Martha Bennett, Louise Paullin, Helen Nixon, and Genevieve Forbes Herrick. An enthusiastic meeting was held Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Martin Kent Northam in Evanston, during which plans for the benefit were made. Tickets for the concerts now are on sale. Children Compete for Black Hills Vacation Some boy or girl in the Middle West is going to enjoy a vacation in the scenic Black Hills of South Dakota, all expenses, including those of a guardian, paid, for winning a letter- writing contest, according to an- nouncements being made daily during "Baby Ruth Candy Time" programs from the Chicago Daily News Radio station WMAQ at 5 p. m., Chicago daylight savings time. The contest, which is being spon- sored by Otto Y. Schnering, president of the Curtiss Candy company, is for the best letter written by any boy or girl between the ages of 6 and 18, on "Why I Like Baby Ruth Candy." The winner will be awarded a two weeks' trip from Chicago to Rapid City, South Dakota, and return, via the Chicago and North Western railway, all expenses paid, including railroad and Pullman transportation, ten days spent at the new Alex Johnson hotel at Rapid City and Scenic motor tours of the Black Hills Transportation com- pany for himself or herself and guardian. The guardian may be either parent of the winner or any one of age appointed by them. TEACH AT NORTHWESTERN L.
