44 WINNETKA TALK June 23, 1928 If Weather Is Too Hot, Just Go to the Varsity Thanks to modern engineering genius, anybody can end a heat wave at will by going to a movie. One turn of a lever on refrigerating plants, such as the one at the Varsity theater, puts frost on a mile of coils, reduces the air in circulation to a pleasant temperature, and turns the interior of a building into a haven of comfort. Time is annihilated by the presence of autumn climate in mid- summer. Distance is spanned by hav- ing seacoast freshness 1,000 miles from the ocean. The cooling plant at the Varsity manufactures air to specifications in the same manner that factories pro- duce merchandise to standard models. The characteristics of "finished air" meet requirements in cleanliness, tem- perature, and humidity. Air washed and cooled is sent into the theater by the ventilating fans at outlets in all corners of the house. Mrs. Frank D. B. Robinson of 1026 Ashland avenue, Wilmette, who for the past year has been staff artist of radio station WEHS on the Orrington hotel, Evanston, is now the announcer and di- rector of that station. Miss Robinson has gained wide popularity through her singing and charming person- ality. She has achieved signal success as a concert artist, her first appearance being with the Chicago Symphony or- chestra at the Auditorium theater. She is a graduate of New Trier High school and the American Conservatory of Music and is a member of Phi Beta, professional musical fraternity. She is the possessor of an unusual voice, which, unlike the majority of so- pranos, registers perfectly over the air. "The Fortune Teller," a popular selection from Victor Herbert's comic opera of the same name, will be a feature on the program of the North Shore Ensemble this Satur- day evening, 6:30 to 7:30, over WEHS, according to Miss Robinson. This well known dinner concert group has become a regular week-end feature at the Orrington hotel station. It is composed of Walter N. Pil- grim, director and pianist, and George Lauer, 'cellist.
