Heart Disease Is on Increase Among Young, Says Expert Declaring that heart disease now outranks tuberculosis as a drain on human resources, Dr. Isaac D. Raw- lings, state health director, announced this week that 15,044 persons succumb- ed to heart disease in Illinois last year, an increase of 329 over the 1926 figure. Furthermore, the mortality indicates that fully 150,000 people in the state are now living impaired and deficient lives account of that disorder which frequently reduces the produc- tive ability of its victims over long periods of time. 5 "If heart disease were confined to the aged, the rapid rise in the mortali- ty from that disorder would be a source of encouragement rather than concern to health officers," said Dr. Rawlings. "After rounding out a full and useful life one means of exit would be as good as another and a rising percentage of fatalities at the upper age strata would indicate an increasingly efficient saving of life at its beginning and during the time of greatest service. Car Hurled Into Ditch in Willow Road Crash The junction of Willow and Hib- bard roads was the scene of an auto- mobile cellision Thursday afternoon of last week, the cars coming together with sufficient force to turn one of them completely around, hurling it into a ditch. The drivers of both cars, Mrs. L. H. Meyer, of 85 Wol- fram street, Chicago, and George P. Schwaab, also of Chicago, were in- jured.
