The story in this picture is extremely human. Though not a war picture, the undercurrent of the World War is felt in several sequences and it stresses the tragedy of a proud nation suffering the pangs of galling defeat. Leatrice Joy's attractive personality, her beauty and her sparkling charm shine throughout the picture. Both Joseph Schildkraut and Nils Asther, featured players in support of Miss Joy, are ideally cast. For three days next week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the Varsity will show "Laugh, Clown, Laugh," said to be the greatest story of backstage life ever pictured. It was chosen as one of the six best motion pictures dur- ing the month of June by Photoplay, which says: "This is the best work of Lon Chaney since 'The Unholy Three,' and it is a great relief to have him minus his usual sinister make- up. The name of the picture is "A Certain Young Man." Miss Myers makes a most attractive scorned lady in a beautiful blonde wig that becomes her almost, if not quite, as much as her own dark hair.
