July 28, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Winnetka Bows to Indian Hill in Tennis Matches The junior boys and girls of the Indian Hill Club Tennis team met and defeated the junior boys and girls of the Winnetka club, five matches to none, at the Winnetka Tennis club Sunday. In the girls' singles Barbara Holden displayed her best game of the sea- son in defeating Virginia Healy 6-2, 6-0. Her driving game from the base- line paved the way for an easy victory. Jane Littell, playing her first team match won over Leonora Tietgens of Winnetka 6-2, 6-4. In the boys' singles Francis Stanton of Indian Hill defeated John Parker in the first match 6-1, 6-1. Parker's in- ability to maintain a consistent sery- ice cost him many valuable points, while his opponent seized every op- portunity to score throughout the match. John Wallace of Indian Hill and Ed Brown of Winnetka fought out the second boys' singles match, with Wallace eventually winning 6-0, 6-3. Both boys served badly, but Wal- lace, in spite of his wildness in serving one whole game of double faults, came through a winner. In the concluding match of the mixed doubles, Adalaide Ball and Francis Stanton of Indian Hill defeat- ed Susan Tietgens and John Parker, in a well fought match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Both girls played very well, occasion- ally flashing a brilliant shot to end a long rally. Whereas the first two sets were close, the third set proved very decisive, the winners running out five straight games before their opponents could break through to capture a game, The summary of the matches is as follows : Barbara Holden defeated Virginia Healy, 6-2, 6-0; Jane Littell defeated Leonora Tietgens, 6-2, 6-4; Francis Stanton defeated John Parker, 6-1, 6-1; John Wallace defeated Ed Brown, 6-0, 6-3; Adalaide Ball and Francis Stanton defeated Susan Tietgens and John Parker 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
