Winn. 1892 Mrs. Carlos Andrews to Appear in "The Sponge" Playing under her stage name, Vir- ginia West, Mrs. Carlos Andrews, chairman of the play-writing class of the Drama Club of Evanston, formerly a professional actress, will be a mem- ber of the cast of "The Sponge," the play written by Alice C. D. Riley to be staged the first week in August at the Jack and Jill theater at the Drake hotel, Chicago. Mrs. Andrews' daughter, Charlotte, who has been on the professional stage within the last two years, will also be a member of the cast of the same one- act play which will be one of the two which are being presented by Alice Gerstenberg preliminary to a possible presentation at the Palace on profes- sional vaudeville circuit. Mrs. Andrews takes the role of Bettina and Miss Andrews plays as Nina Aristo. Others of the cast include Sara Fenton as Katherine Aristo; Earle Fox as Ralph Forrester, and Edwin Marshall as Al- fredo Frascati. In the cast of "Radio," the other play by Mrs. Riley, are Ruth Frank as Mamie Stewart; Ruskin Stone as Jim Stewart, and Roger Brownley as Ted Connelly. Carleton Washburne Returns Wednesday from Summer Work Superintendent Carleton Washburne, of the Winnetka Public schools, is ex- pected to return next Wednesday from northern Minnesota where he is spend- ing a week's vacation with his fam- ily. He had been giving summer courses at the University of Minne- sota and completed his work there last week. Following his return to Winnetka next Wednesday Superintendent Washburne will be in his office for a few days. He expects to leave the latter part of the week for Greeley, Colo.,, where he will give summer courses for two weeks at the Colorado State Teachers' college. After completing his work at Greeley he will go to Indiana to give his lec- tures and demonstrations for another week at a teachers' institute.
