August 4, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 51 KENILWORTH BUILDERS GET BREATHING SPELL Only Three Permits Issued in July for Residences, But They'll Cost $74,500 July was truly vacation time in the building permit department at the Kenilworth village hall, the same as it was for scores of residents of the village. This condition, relative to building permits, however, is not unlike that of former Julys, and even the month of August. Only three permits for new resi- dences were issued in Kenilworth last month, but there is a consoling fact, that since the first of the year, the village has witnessed upwards of a million dollars worth of new building, and, with the coming of early fall, a resumption of these activities is an- ticipated. A number of fine new homes, it is said, are to be started then. The total cost of the three new homes authorized by last month's building permits was $74,500, one resi- dence alone costing $46,000. It is being built by Bruce B. Williams, at 156 Woodstock avenue, a two story tile and stone structure, with attached garage. William J. Pickard is building a two story brick veneer, with attached two- car garage, at 556 Earlston road, cost- ing $18,500, and Mrs. W. J. McDowell was granted a permit for a two story brick veneer at 709 Maclean avenue, costing $10,000. A cloth now claims its place as a wall covering, coming in designs not unlike those of up to date wall paper. This cloth also is manufactured in a design which imitates tile. Fastened to the wall by a special adhesive it can be washed without hurting or injuring the fabric. Ventilation through the door! It can be had, and plenty of it, by the installation of a door which has a ventilating panel at the top. This ventilator can be partially or fully open. It is designed with vertical lines, and it detracts in no way from the appearance of the door.
