A new assembly plant, the eighth in a chain was formally opened last week in Atlanta, Ga. Another plant, the ninth, is under construction in Kansas City. The Atlanta plant is mammoth, is capable of turning out 350 cars a day, It covers 32 acres and occupies 410,000 square feet of floor space. There are five buildings, and in the main one the Fisher Body company is using 160 by 760 square feet of space to build their famous bodies for the Chevrolet closed cars. Another facility to speed up de- liveries is a driveaway shed, 40 by 220 feet, where dealers from nearby cities can take deliveries of cars. New Chrysler Models Given Great Reception Reception of the new Chrysler has been the greatest the company has ever enjoyed, states W. D. Reagan, manager, North Suburban Sales, and as a result Chrysler is faced with the necessity of substantially increasing its greatest previous output in order to keep pace with the demand for cars. Word from the Detroit factory indi- cates that every step is being taken to meet the sales as rapidly as is consist- ent with maintaining the standard of quality. The Plymouth, the new model Chrysler, is presenting an example of how fine a car of low price can be built, and the "65" and "75" have all been given a tremendous reception, states Mr. Reagan. Forty Ton Press Speeding Up Work at Skokie Co. Shop In these days of the automobile age keeping the car in condition to give the maximum of service is so important that mechanical devices which will speed up the mechanic's work are con- stantly coming into use. The old adage of a "stitch in time saves nine" is ap- plicable to automobiles for a repair job in time is certain to eliminate many other troubles in the car. That automobile owners realize this is evident by the number of cars to be found in the automobile shops and this realization has resulted in the de- mand for machinery which will com- plete a job more speedily than hereto- fore. In the effort to handle cars more ef- ficiently and rapidly, the Skokie Mo- tor company of Main street, is using a new hydraulic press, which it is claimed is the only one in operation on the north shore. This press is a Wil- son and is operated by use of oil. When axles, gears or bushings need to be straightened they go to the hydraulic press and only minutes are required to complete a job which used to run into hours. The power of this press is indicated by the fact that it is capable of forty tons pressure. And interesting also is the fact that its operation is so easy and simple that a ten year old child can easily operate it.
