ATHLETES COMPETE AT EVANSTON Hold First Annual Track and Field Meet of Railway System Saturday, August 25 The Chicago and North Western Railway System Athletic association will hold its first annual track and field meet Saturday, August 25, at the Ev- anston Township High school athletic field. Contestants from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming, the nine states served by the North Western in its twenty- six divisions, will participate. Thirteen entries are allowed each division under the rules of the meet. A reception committee at the Davis street station and at the athletic field will be composed of members of the North Western Post No. 430 of the American Legion, made up of em- ployes of the railroad who served in the world war. The Chicago and North Western band, under the lead- ership of R. A. Miller, will play at the field. Admission is free. Begin at 1 P. M. The events will begin at 1 p. m. Day- light time. A championship baseball game will be played between the two teams in the system who have been victors in the elimination baseball schedule held during the spring and summer. Interdivisional contests have been held for all the other events, which include a 100-yard dash, 220-yard dash, 440-yard run, mile run, broad jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, and a half-mile relay in which each team of four men will run 220 yards. 'Awards will include medals of gold, silver and bronze for first, second and third place winners for each event; a championship team trophy to the track and field team winning the most points; a relay trophy and a champion- ship baseball trophy. The last three awards will be held by the winning team at three annual athletic meets. Individual emblems for players on the championship baseball team, and for members of the winning relay team will be given. Trap Shooting Event A preliminary trap shooting event will be held in Lincoln Park Saturday morning at 10 a. m., participated in by trap shooters all over the system, with first, second and third awards. George B. Vilas, general manager of the Chicago and North Western railway, is president of the athletic as- sociation, Frank Wenter, 1204 Ashland avenue, Wilmette, is vice-president, H. S. Larimer is secretary, and Charles Westbrook is treasurer. Ten thousand members compose the organization which is one of the pioneers in the field of industrial athletics.
