2 WINNETKA TALK August 18, 1928 RETURN FROM COLORADO Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Craven returned recently from a motor trip to Colorado. Mr. Craven went out a month ago to visit with friends on a ranch and Mrs. Craven went a little later and was gone about ten days. Miss Marjorie Means, the daughter of the friends they were visiting, drove back with them and will be their houseguest for several weeks. Muir Snow of Detroit will be here next week for a visit with Frank Arm- strong, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Armstrong of 365 Sheridan road. TAKE MOTOR TRIP EAST Dr. and Mrs. Paul Starr of 1078 Spruce street have motored east to Chatham, Mass., to spend some time. Accompanying them is Mrs. Starr's mother, Mrs. M. R. Kultchar. Mrs. Kultchar, who was formerly a resident of Winnetka, has been spending six weeks visiting her daughter and friends here. Mr. and Mrs. William F. Healy and family of 205 Melrose avenue, Kenil- worth, left August 7 for Long Lake, Wis., to spend two weeks or more. RECOVERS FROM ILLNESS John R. Cochran, 370 Chestnut street, who has been seriously ill at the Evanston hospital is now con- valescing at his home. His son Robert, and Ralph Netterstrom of Winnetka are camping in Wisconsin and a little later will go to Washington Island, Green Bay, Wis. for a month, return- ing home the middle of September in time to go away to school. Mrs. Frank Fulton of 884 Hill road is spending two weeks in Mansfield, Ohio, visiting her daughter. ~~ A Long Distance Call Is a Simple Matter ERHAPS there are still a few persons who ~ believe that making a long distance call is a long-drawn-out, complicated and expensive pro- cedure. Barnum, of 735 Walden road, is convalescing now after an ill- ness of three weeks spent at St. Luke's hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Barnum left last Monday evening for their Christ- mas Tree cabins at Land O'Lakes, Wis., where it is hoped that the quiet and invigorating air will help Mrs. Barnum to recuperate. A party of friends from St. Louis, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Withrow and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Denyven, came through Chi- cago several weeks ago and stopped to get "Billy" Barnum and then went on up to the Barnum's lodge so that everything might be in readiness for their arrival. As Mrs. Barnum started north directly from the hospital it would have been impossible for her to take charge of the opening up of the summer home this year. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Orr of Phil- adelphia are visiting their daughter, Mrs. Charles Schwartz, 187 Ridge ave- nue. Miss Elizabeth Schwartz is leav- ing next Friday to visit a sorority sis- ter at Rochester, Minn. and her broth- er, Charles Clifford, will leave the same day to visit at Land O" Lakes, Wis. By September 1 the family will be re- united at their summer home at Ver- million, Minn, -- Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Coambs, 142 Church road, and their daughter, Betty Jane, visited recently in Rock Island, Ill. Joseph B. Coambs, Jr., and Crilly and Melburn Butler returned a week ago from their western trip.
