-------- ----p ----l A ou ---- August 25, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 25 The Voters' Column by Hoyt King When asked if decent Republicans would harmonize with the representa- tives of the criminal element forced on their ticket, Edward Litsinger, Republican, nominated for reelection to the Board of Review said, "Why, that would mean taking Morris Eller by the hand and asking the clean, decent people of Chicago to honor him." He then traced the growth of pol- itical corruption from the time when "common varieties of graft and plun- der" existed, to the present alliance between criminals and officials, when gang murders, machine gun fire in the streets, bombings, bootlegging, hi- jacking, safe blowing, robbery and racketeering have by complaisance of the police, politically controlled judges and the prosecuting office, become im- mune. The election of Judge Swan- son, Republican, to the State's Attor- ney's office, is looked for as the peo- ple's chance to remedy this condition. George H. Weideling, Republican candidate for sheriff, joins in demand for the exclusion of Morris Eller from any support by decent Republicans. Morris Eller nominated for Drain- age Trustee and boss of the "Bloody" Twentieth Ward, is under indictment, || charged with responsibility for some of the fraud and kidnappings at the primary. On a recount, he was found credited with votes not marked for him, but how many were fraudulently marked remains to be decided. A further purging of the Republican ticket is looked for. Mr. Jaranowski, candidate for County Recorder, is one of the four Crowe-controlled members of the County Board who refused funds for the present special Grand Jury. It will be remembered that he was illegally appointed by the Crowe- controlled County board to succeed Recorder Haas who died. Then Jar- anowski wife's name was substituted. Mr. Jaranowski, however, at once took charge, let out Deneen supporters, and created a political office. Knowing politicians also mention Oscar Wolfe, renominated for Coroner, as one whose office bore with notor- ious Eller henchmen until Mr. Eller met misfortune. Mr. Wolfe has de- serted Mr. Eller, too, but none know to which side he has flopped this time. He has made a success of alternating Eugene A. Bolmar Dies at Home in Milwaukee Eugene A. Bolmar, formerly a resi- dent of Wilmette and president of the Hamilton club from 1922 to 1924, died Friday, August 10, in Milwaukee. Fun- eral services were held last Monday at Bertley's chapel in Chicago. Mr. Bolmar was president of the Elaine Candy company of Milwaukee but was formerly for many years associated with the E. J. Brach and Sons Candy company of Chicago. The services were attended by many north shore friends. Commodore J. Stewart Blackton, having seen the opening season of the club Vista del Lago launched, has re- turned to his home in Hollywood, Cal. He spent two months here visiting and supervising the club's activities. between the different Republican fac- tions. Friends of Judge Swanson express the hope that Mr. Litsinger and Mr. Weideling will include the candidates for County Recorder and Coroner in their condemnation and force out enemies of Judge Swanson who can do more harm inside than outside the camp.
