Abel, of the Abel Battery & Ignition Service, 716 Elm street, is taking his vacation a little later this season than usual, but he is leaving today to keep an important engage- ment with some of the big fish family up in Ontario. He is motoring. At Minoqua, Wis.,, he will be joined by Art Harrison. Montreal, Quebec and Toronto will be included in their itin- erary, and they will also make a trip to Thousand Islands. The visit to Toronto is planned in time to attend the annual fair, a big event in that section. SPEND SUMMER ABROAD Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Bersbach and their three daughters arrived at their home on Indian Hill road last Satur- day after spending the summer in tra- vel abroad. Theodore, the oldest son, drove west this summer with Pardee Beardslee and George Miner and is at home until time for him to leave for Williams college. John Bersbach has been a counselor at Jack Ander- son's camp in Michigan and will go to the Berkshire school later this fall. RETURNS FROM PACK TRIP Miss Virginia Macl.eish, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. MacLeish, re- turned to Winnetka this week from a five weeks' pack trip in the Cana- dian northwest, Jasper National park, and the Emerald Lake country. She was a member of the party conducted by Miss Caroline Hinman of Summit, N. J.,, who is a Smith graduate of '06 and much experienced in African trav- el as well as the high Rockies. E. C. During Current Term Arrangements have been completed for the addition of the fifth grade to the Children's school of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college, which will open for the fall session on Wednesday, September 19. Miss Edith Ford, B. A. Iowa State Teachers college, will direct the work of the fourth and fifth grades this year. Miss Ford has had wide experi- ence in the public schools of Mon- tana and has recently been teaching with marked success the fourth and fifth grades in the demonstration school of the Iowa State Teachers college. The Children's school, which opened two years ago with the nursery school, kindergarten and first three grades of the elementary school, is adding one grade each year, and with the open- ing of the sixth grade in the fall of 1929 will offer complete preparation for entrance to junior high school. Other additions to the staff are Miss Nellie Macl.ennan, B. S. Teachers col- lege, Columbia university, who will conduct courses in art in the College and teach some of the art classes in the Children's school. Miss MacLen- nan has had special study in art and art education, and has been unusually successful in stimulating creative work with children. Miss Marian Case, B. A. University of Colorado, will direct the playground activities for the older boys and girls and will assist in the dramatic work of the school. At the request of several parents, the school has added to the afternoon schedule an elective course in religious instruction for boys and girls, begin- ning with the second grade. Other optional classes for the afternoon will be conducted as during the past year-- physical work for boys, rhythm and dancing for girls, piano, French and art. The excursions which have been a part of the afternoon schedule are to be conducted during the morning hours so that all the children may have an opportunity to attend. ADAMS FAMILY HOME Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Adams, 926 Cherry street, and their two children are home from their summer vacations.
